The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are. J. Pierpont Morgan

Goals Completed: 2
Goals in Progress: 30

Today, between Tai Chi classes, I met with the Training Officer (out for several months for a family emergency) at the Fire Department where I volunteer. We talked about my training goals and how I'd like to complete my Oregon Firefighter I certification by the end of summer (Burning Man), and he nodded and said, " I think we can make that happen." Next thing I knew I was hammering and prying open wooden, steel, and industrial doors with a marriage of a Halligan tool and a flatback fire axe, and completing all of the Forcible Entry taskbook tasks for my certification.

Just as we were finishing up, and I poured myself a hot cup of coffee ... the station klaxon goes off, and we're running to deal with a mental health call. I get to drive U482, the utility vehicle (another signature in my taskbook!) and get to help make an ugly situation better, seeing a mental health crisis in a whole new perspective. We weren't back at the station for two minutes, and I hadn't even gotten back to my coffee ... when the station alarm goes off again, and I take the back seat in M481 for my second ride-along, learning about gurney management and medical assessment and helping comfort an elderly woman with some severe medical issues while we transported her to the local emergency room.

This week I've been in meditation with Ganesha for the upcoming Puja. Ganesha, as quoted by Wikipedia, " is widely revered as the remover of obstacles, ... the patron of arts and sciences and the deva of intellect and wisdom" as well as the god of beginnings. My taskbook, opening locked and stubborn doors, helping others with obstacles, clutter, classes, bus projects ...they've all been completed easily.  Removing obstacles, indeed.
