101/1001 Update

"One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again." - Abraham Maslow

Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I'm still doing 120 almost-daily pushups, in three sets, although often just before midnight. I've attended two more Qigong/Tai Chi classes this week. The new heavier-duty sandbag has arrived at Base Station, as well as my February GoRuck 'Strength' patch.

The March GoRuck 'Courage' Challenge has dropped, with the “Harrison” WOD, a 15-minute AMRAP of 3 Sandbag Hang Cleans, 3 Sandbag Presses, 6 Ruck push-ups, and 12 Sit-ups (with ruck on chest). Sgt. 1st Class Calvin B. Harrison, 31, was killed Sept. 29, during a combat operation in Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan. There's also a bonus WOD, The Fall of Bagdad WOD, with a 2000m Ruck, and 34 rounds of 1 Sandbag 'Cluster' (a full squat clean and thruster), 3 Ruck Push-Ups, and 5 Mountain Climbers, and then another 2000M Ruck to finish. We already have done the Bonus WOD last year, but we'll do it again! The rucking requirement is three 3-mile Rucks using heavier than “normal” (40+ lbs., for me) weight. The additional tasking is to, "[r]each out to at least 2 people and tell them why you believe they are courageous. Then do something that tests your courage, physically or mentally." The book of the month is Generation Kill by Evan Wright.

I have already done something that has tested my mental courage. My landlord lost his lease, and I had to relocate to another office space, sight unseen, with about 12 hours' notice, due to poor planning and even poorer communication on his part. We packed and loaded starting after my last client for the day at 7 pm, and he rented a moving company at no cost to me - and I had a functional office set up and ready for my next day's clients by 1 am. My new office is a bit narrower, but it has two big windows and is in a much nicer building in the NE Alberta district. I have been busy unpacking and finishing the office between clients.

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm almost done studying The Art of War by Sun Tzu from my permanent library. I'm halfway through Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century by Jessica Bruder. I'm continuing my daily meditation for the month of March.

New words: No time for words!

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: A tubular adenoma, a non-cancerous growth in my colon, was removed and tested. I'm good for another 5 years! *wry smile* I've collected a copy of all of my education hours for my addiction counselor recertification, and I'll submit them this week. Business cards with my new address have been ordered. Bills and rent have been paid. I've completed another CEU online class, Sexuality in Therapy.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: This weekend is our GoRuck Self-Responder class. We'll train how to manage an act of violence immediately after the threat is neutralized, including tactical positioning in order to protect ourselves and others, triage and crowd control, using our IFAKs for bleeding control including using direct pressure, dressings, tourniquets, wound packing, penetrating chest trauma treatment, and treating for and preventing shock. This is a good review for me, but a new training experience for Faye.

Base Station/Ol' Number 3: The landscaping and the dog run have been completed, as well as some other landscaping projects including the steps to the Pump House. We are proceeding with basic septic system excavation and the permitting process.

Adventure/Doing Stuff: We went on an epic socially-distanced car-camping road trip to finish an Oregon Counties Geocaching Challenge, finding geocaches in the last two counties I needed, and we also found caches in three Delorme squares. We made two valiant efforts to get another Delorme Square in the NE corner of the state from two different directions, and got very close - but snowfall on the second day made it impossible. Still a great and much-needed road trip!
