101/1001 Update

“I do not know anyone who has got to the top without hard work. That is the recipe. It will not always get you to the top, but should get you pretty near.” – Margaret Thatcher

Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I've trained in one Shaolin Kung Fu class and no Qi Gong/Yang Tai Chi classes this week. I've made no progress with the Yang Staff Form. I did complete the Bloomsday 12K Race two weekends ago.

April's GoRuck 'Nurture' Challenges are also completed. I spent the whole of a sunny day completing the Rucking and Additional Challenge, which was to, "Shoot to Ruck 20 or more miles, dealer's choice. Work on building up to your chosen distance & schedule a day that works for you towards the end of the month and ruck 20+ miles." I did an urban ruck with a breakfast burrito, a burger, and two VooDoo doughnuts en route. Despite changing socks at Mile 12, I did get a couple of serious blisters on my feet that hindered my movement for a few days, and some bloody socks.

May's GoRuck 'Remember' challenge tasks are ongoing. The rucking and additional tasking are, "1 mile Ruck each day for the month of May. You choose the load. Challenge yourself by switching up what you carry. For example, add a little more weight to your ruck, put on a weight vest, add a sandbag, or do a farmer's carry." I have, so far, kept up with at least a daily mile ruck. The way it worked out, I still haven't completed the F*CK, which is supposed to be a Murph Prep: a 1-mile ruck, shuffle or run with ruck or weight vest for time (you pick the weight), a May 2023 Retest. I've also got the April F*CK, which is the 60x60 (June 2023 retest), a Max Sandbag Burpees in 60 seconds with 60-lb. sandbag. I'll get those done this week.

I did, however, complete the workout, 'The Murph', which was a 1 Mile Ruck, 200 Sandbag Bent Over Rows or 100 Pullups, 200 Push-Ups, and 300 Squats and then another 1 Mile Ruck, all while wearing a 20-lb. weight Vest/Plate carrier, and with a 60-lb. Sandbag. I pushed myself a bit with the Murph, doing two extra sets of 20 Bent Over Rows and two extra sets of pushups, and added my 20-lb. EDC ruck for the second mile. I have also watched Masters of the Air, an excellent perspective on the incredible losses of war.

As a side benefit of daily rucking, I've also continued my duties as a Free Librarian, cycling, tidying, and organizing books and community pantry supplies for several Free Libraries and our Community Pantry, and sometimes I find something I can use. I've found in a free box an almost new leather and fur sporran, with a broken snap I was able to have repaired cheaply and quickly at Stumptown Kilts. I also scored a small construction work light, with new bulbs attached, that will be emergency lighting.

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I've made progress with the books in this entry, including The Inside Track: An Inspirational Guide To Conquering Adversity by Peter Sage, The Disaster-Ready Home: A Step-by-Step Emergency Preparedness Manual for Sheltering in Place by Creek Stewart, and Hidden in Plain Sight: Esoteric Power Training Within Japanese Martial Traditions: Tracing the Roots of Ueshiba Morihei's Power, by Ellis Amdur(editor). I've also finished reading Living M/s: A Book for Masters, slaves, and Their Relationships by Dan and Dawn Williams.

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: No progress.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: No progress.

Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: Last weekend, I took a brief road trip to Spokane, WA, with Nay, and we completed the Bloomsday 12K race, hung out in various hot tubs, and met Nay's family and childhood places. We also got a chance to see the Campbell House, an amazing restored 1898 house restored by the Eastern Washington Historical Society and part of the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture. This weekend we roadtripped again, and we attended the Seattle Opera for The Barber of Seville and a Mariner's baseball game. The A's crushed the Mariners, who just couldn't get their offense going, but it was still a fun game to watch, and a good hot dog. *smile*
