101/1001 Update
“Good teaching is more a giving of right questions than a giving of right answers.” — Josef Albers
Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing: I am on break from the weekly Shaolin Kung Fu class for the holidays.
December's GoRuck 'Live' Challenges are ongoing. The workout is the 'Nightmare WOD before Christmas' and is actually a 2-day workout. Day 1 is the 'Jack Skellington' WOD with a buy-in of a 1 Mile run/shuffle, then 50 Burpees, 50 Sit-Ups, 50 Push-Ups, 50 Squats, 50 4ct Mountain Climbers, 50 4ct Jumping Jacks, and 50 4ct Flutter Kicks. Day 2 is the "Lock, Shock, and Barrel" WOD, which is 10 Man Makers, 50 Plank Ruck Pull Throughs, a 400m Ruck, 10 more Man Makers, 50 Ruck Pressed Leg Lifts, another 400m Ruck, 10 more Man Makers, 50 American Twists (2 ct), and a final 400m Ruck. The F*CK is Sandbag Burpees, 2 minutes max reps with sandbag at baseline weight. All that's left is the workout and the repeat F*CK. Because I was away for a week, December's Challenges may be late.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: My next book in my martial arts library is Warriors of the Heart by Danaan Parry. I'm still slowly working my way through A New Mourning: Discovering the Gifts in Grief by Georgena Eggleston. I was unexpectedly gifted Securing Sexuality: Emerging Issues at the Intersection of Intimacy and Technology by Stefani Goerlich and J. Wolfgang Goerlich, along with a wee dram of Loch Lamond 18, and I'm eager to get started on them now that I'm back.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I'm still under a lot of year-end pressure for the life insurance policies and the legal issues that have to be resolved by the end of the year. Yet another pile of mail needs to be collected at Base Station. The Whorse will be ready for pickup whenever I can schedule her. I'll get her to Base Station and start her rehabilitation and restocking this winter.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I'm continuing Jim Cobb's Countdown to Preparedness book/assignments. Week 22 is firearms, and I still need to check, clean, and practice more with my existing gear. Week 22 is still on hold. I'm in okay/very good shape for Week 40, Reducing your (Public) Footprint, and Week 41, Situational Awareness.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress.
Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: I attended a geocaching event with some friends at Peacock Lane and saw the Christmas lights. I also enjoyed a Chanakah Dinner with the Screwball Cigar Club, wearing my new Boston Scally Contender cap in Blackwatch, and I'll wear it while using my Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad gift ticket, both gifts from the Partner in Crime. *smile* I also spent a week in North Carolina visiting my Student and her son. I found one of the 100 remaining oldest geocaches in Charlotte, and also found many challenge geocaches that I qualified for. Many of the plans we had made didn't work out, but what needed to happen, happened. I will be spending more time with her, working on some structure, motivation, and focus - and that will be good for me, as well. I received a Tiger Karambit from her and gave her some books that are also part of my permanent martial arts library, and I gifted a Tanto to her son.
