The monthly Update
Aug. 14th, 2004 09:30 pm(1) Work, when I've been there, has been great. I got the formal notification that we passed every area of our review. I also have been doing pretty well with my clients, and I've kept them out of the hospital, out of crisis, and out of relapse. I think. I've done well at RockMed events, and a SCA event or two this year, as well.
(2) Still working on the dissertation. One section is done, all of the data is figured. All that's left...is the write up. Whew.
(3) Still training in karate, even though I've missed/will miss two testing cycles to move up in belts to high blue (8th dan). Working hard, and craving the self-discipline and the physical workouts. Learning kata above my level, and also starting to focus on kumate (sparring) and getting faster and harder.
(4) Been on vacation; one week in San Jose and one week locally. The first week was about preparation for Burningman---physically training and emotionally preparing myself. Niko, Julie, and The Senescal all took everything I had repressed/ been holding back when my emotional walls dropped. I owe them a lot for that. My painfully raw emotions did clarify lots of things in our relationships with each other, though.
The second week I was supposed to go on a week-long motorcycle trip that I go on every year, but the day before, my chain jumped its sprocket at 45mph in Grand Ronde. It wrapped around the chain guard and the frame instead of my leg or the wheel, and I was able to get off the road without dumping the bike. Thus ends my riding season, as I won't be able to afford getting it fixed or be able to get it in to the HD shop until September. *frustration* I'll probably get a belt drive, when I can afford it.
So, I've stayed local and clarified a lot of relationships. Painfully. I'm feeling pretty emotionally beat up right now, but there is very little ambiguity in a lot of my relationships with other people right now. Simplification is a bitch.
(5) Today, Daisy (the Senescal's cat) went to another home. There was a considerable amount of grief/loss/honor involved, and I respect my roommate even more. She is a true Warrior, and her loyalty and honor I will never be able to match.
(6) Got my truck panels fixed on the passenger side, and the hood straightened. Still have the grill to replace and the driver side to get done.
(7) So, what now? I need to pack/prepare for Burningman in 2 weeks, study for a community play I'm in, submit my dissertation sections, start the internship process, get caught up at work, clean up my office and garage, and train. Whew.
Time to get started...
