Dec. 5th, 2007 03:43 pmI’m back from CO. I didn’t actually spar the uchideshi, but I did train twice with her at Aikido Nippon Kan dojo, a rather impressive school. Both times I was clearly the least skilled student in the class, and I clearly need practice and training with small Japanese women in hakamas. I also need practice and skills with rock climbing, having gotten the opportunity to go climbing with Fifth Angel’s family. My lats, my forearms, and the back of my shoulders are mildly sore this morning, a good feeling.
I also ate twice at Domo, the Japanese restaurant attached to the dojo, and had some of the best Japanese food I have ever had. I was toured around Bailey, Boulder, and Denver, helped the uchideshi bag leaves, ate Hawaiian BBQ and buffalo, and trained hard every day. The uchideshi got a significant step ahead of me in Boulder, earning 50 bonus points, and saved considerable time. My time in Colorado was brief, but the best part was the conversation the trips allowed, and the learning that happened both ways, and the building of an enhanced relationship.
The universe prompted an opportunity to overcome part of pancha makara, ingesting a bit of seafood and managing to figure out a way to process it without a trip to the ER or projectile vomiting, and still being able to train in my second Aikido class. Breathing, meditation, and a quick consult with Sienna were enough - a reminder that training is not just about martial arts.
Domo Arigato gozaimashita. *bow*
