Firefighter Intern: Day 30 and 31
Oct. 5th, 2018 09:41 pm"Our job is to save lives -- as many lives as we can -- at the cost of our own lives if need be. There is no particular logic to the mathematics of this -- and damned little glory. But there is tradition and there is honor and that's enough." - Zen of Firefighting
We started, as usual, with house chores, and I spent the day studying for my EMT quiz on Monday, getting the medical supplies I will need for the term, and briefly chasing in Engine 481 for a gentleman with chest pain - but we were cleared almost as soon as we got there. In the evening we all went to the local High School homecoming football game and watched the game on medical standby from Medic 481 and 483.
We were toned out at 3am, and we chased Medic 481 to Westport in U482 for an unconscious patient, where I was somewhat useful carrying things and getting different medical supplies (a scoop stretcher, more electrodes, the airway bag, the diabetic kit, the spinal stabilization kit). I ended up driving U482 back to the station by myself because they needed the extra paramedic on the Medic unit.
In the morning, both of us Interns (Cassidy came in for her shift today) spent most of the day studying for our exams on Monday. There were no calls all day, and other than doing the Inventory/ restocking on Medic 481, we had our nose in our textbooks. We all slept well with no calls. *smile*
