101/1001 Update
Jan. 8th, 2022 11:30 pmThe new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals. – Melody Beattie
Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: The January 'Risk' GoRuck Challenge finally dropped, about 13 hours late, and is exactly the same as last year, except for the book and the additional tasking. The workout is a 3-Mile Ruck, then 12 Rounds of 6 Sandbag/Ruck Rows, 6 Burpee Squats (Full Burpee with Jump followed by Squat), 6 4-Count Mountain Climbers, and 6 Rucksack Getups, and then another 3-Mile Ruck. The rucking requirement is a mile a day, every day. The additional tasking is,"[w]rite down something positive that you want to do this year, and what you need to do to be ready." The book to read this month is The Mission the Men and Me by Pete Blaber.
We've completed the extra 7-Day Functions Check, in addition to the January GoRuck Challenge. We rucked 26 miles total, as well as no TV or video games, no social media, and 4 workouts (three Tai Chi/Qigong classes and the January workout) for this week. I've also completed the extra tasking. That leaves the book and the daily ruck for the rest of the month, and the luxury to focus on other fitness goals.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I have been polishing off my book pile. I've picked up and finished Words on Bathroom Walls by Julia Walton, an interesting fictional journal of what it's like to live with paranoid schizophrenia, Journey of a Male Nurse by Joseph Kufchak, Group: How One Therapist and a Circle of Strangers Saved My Life by Christie Tate, and The World's Strongest Librarian: A Memoir of Tourette's, Faith, Strength, and the Power of Family by Josh Hanagarne. I've also finished Dropping the Struggle: Seven Ways to Love the Life You Have by Roger Housden. I'm still reading The Art of War by Sun Tzu from my permanent library. I am engaging in another month of daily meditation, and I am behind a day or two.
New word: Captious means "tending to find fault and raise objections" or "calculated to confuse, entrap, or entangle in argument."
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: No progress.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I completed another Critical Care Transport class, Pediatric Emergencies.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress.
Adventure/Doing Stuff: Because we were house/dog sitting at the River House, the six miles of socially distanced rucking were done while we found a dozen geocaches at Champoeg State Park on a nice sunny, clear afternoon. Once we were done, a nice soak in their hot tub with a nice dram of Dewar's 12 was well deserved and enjoyed.
