List #5 In Review (COVID-19 List)
Jun. 9th, 2022 11:45 pm“You should set goals beyond your reach so you always have something to live for.” — Ted Turner
Overall, I completed 68 goals, many of which were rolled over towards other goals. This is the most goals I have ever completed on any 101/1001 list, mostly because I was inside and socially distanced for much of this list.
Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I completed six goals, including running a Staircase Climb Race in my turnouts, completing 100 non-stop burpees, running a Spartan Race yearly, completing 100 non-stop burpees, completing the full year of the GoRuck Tribe/Seek Pain Challenge, and running 5 races a year. Despite a global pandemic, I also made good progress training at least 3 times a week for 50 weeks in a soft-style martial art. I also completed the MARSOC Short Card, and everything but the running part of the APFT, and almost but not quite completing the 100 pushups and situp challenge. I made very little progress on logging 100 miles on a bicycle.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I completed 16 goals, including three free online college courses, read 30 new martial arts/spirituality/disaster preparation books, read 30 books on Psychology-related topics, ate more mindfully for 50 weeks, engaged in a 7-day fast/detox my body yearly, completed 5 kink classes, wrote 3 well-written haiku a month, learned 50 more new words, meditated daily for 12 different months, and sat zazen formally at least once monthly, using virtual and live stream technology for makeups from the zendo being closed. I re-read half of my permanent martial arts library, got in one Japanese Calligraphy class before the pandemic started, and made poor progress with sleeping at least 7-8 hours a night for 6/7 nights a week for 50 weeks - I average about 6 hours a night, so a better future goal might be 6-7 hours a night.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I completed 7 goals, including completing at least 25 CEUs of interesting topics a year, completing my EMT CEUs biannually, got my yearly complete physical examinations, reviewed my credit reports at least once a year, renewed my CPR/1st Aid certification biannually, and got a dental examination twice yearly. All of the daily vehicles received regular maintenance, but not Ol' Number 3 and other vehicles. We are still in progress to rehabilitate/repair/resupply the Whorse for duty at Burning Man.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I completed 12 goals, including completing multiple additional Red Cross/CERT-related classes, completing all Red Cross Disaster Mental Health and Disaster Health Services G/A/P training requirements, completing the entire EMT Refresher Course, completing five FEMA/NWCG courses, completing almost all of the PeaceHealth StreetMedicine Series Course, completing two tactical self-defense/self-responder classes, completing a tactical medicine course, completing almost all of a Critical Care Transport Provider Course, practiced a yearly survival/bug out drill under different conditions, and completed most of the classes of the Community Health Paramedicine course. I restarted my Firefighter 1 certification tasks after my Taskbook expired, and I am still utilizing the ReadyMan Plan2Survive Program.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: I completed 20 goals in this category, including creating an outside shrine/altar, clearing the illegal dump, creating a party/visitor/sitting space, digging out a Base Station garage/pole barn for Ol' Number 3, excavating the hillside to make more space for Base Station garage parking, completing the Base Station Underground Power Project, helping to build Base Station Gate House exterior, pumping out, testing, and checking the well, installing an automatic gate opener, installing RV hookups, installing a non-potable water system at Base Station, completing the Gate House French Drain, creating at least a Level 2 (30 feet) fire safety zone at Base Station, regraveling the driveway, getting internet, building a Pump House, moving The Old Man into the Gate House, installing antennas and a successful ham station at Base Station, and installing an RV Dump line. Goals of planting to harvest a successful garden/garden boxes, planting fruit trees, installing the septic system at Base Station, gravel and concreting the large vehicle bay, building out/expanding Base Station party/visitor/sitting space, and finishing painting the exterior of the Gate House and Pump House are in progress. Installing a better ham radio antenna on Ol' Number 3 will happen once she's moved into a covered large vehicle bay.
Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: This was the section with the least completed and the most in-progress goals. I completed 5 goals, including completing the Columbia Gorge Hiking/Geocaching Challenge, matching my nipple gauges, completing the Geocaching Finds by Found Date X3, visiting 10 roadside attractions, and visiting 10 Covered Bridges. I saw 5 performers I have heard of and 8 performers I have never heard of, hiked 10 Curious Gorge recommended places, earned 2 new Junior Ranger badges, went on 9 shorter (1-3 day) hiking/camping trips, found more of the oldest 50 geocaches in Oregon and Washington, completed most of the Oregon DeLorme Challenge and part of the Washington DeLorme Challenge, and almost completed the Columbia Gorge Hiking/Geocaching Challenge III, but the pandemic kept me from finishing many of these goals.
