To control our passions we must govern our habits, and keep watch over ourselves in the small details of everyday life. — John Lubbock

Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I'm still getting back into my workday routine of 30 pushups (3 sets), three sets of grippers, 30 air squats, and 30 crunches; I again made no progress this week. I may change up my routine and start substituting Man Makers. I have trained in one Yang Style Tai Chi/Qigong class this week. I'm still working on a weightlifting plan for the dojo equipment, probably focusing on pull-ups. We rucked the F*CK 2022 virtual race, taking advantage of some sunny weather. We rucked the 5K with baseline weight at the Grant HS track in a bit under an hour, setting a good baseline for distance/time. As it turns out, problems with logging results/some computer issue ended up with the race promoters canceling the race and refunding my payment - but the race was still completed, so I'm counting it. December's GoRuck patch has been picked up at Base Station and has been slapped where it belongs, and I bought an extra leather patch for both of us to celebrate that we completed 2022 on time.

The GoRuck Theme of 2023 is Change, and January's 'Change' Challenge tasks have dropped. The workout is the GoRuck Baseline Functional Fitness Test (BFF), a 1-mile ruck/shuffle, 2 minutes of sandbag burpees/overhead toss (no ruck), a 200m suitcase carry (ruck and sandbag), and 2 minutes of hand-release pushups (no ruck). I chose the 'Tough' category, which is a 30+ lbs. ruck, a 60 lb. sandbag, and an 80-lb. 1-miler weight. The rucking requirement is to ruck 1 mile a day all month long, with an additional challenge to add more weight (10 lbs.) each week, and the book of the month is Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman. There is also an additional FXCK (Functions Check) of, "[g]rab your Sandbag or Sand Kettlebell - 50lbs for men and 30lbs for women - and carry it as quickly as you can for one mile." We've started the rucking requirement, with the F*CK 2022 race for the first day, and baseline weight rucks daily for the first week. I've loaded an extra 10-lb. plate for next week into my ruck.

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm still reading How to Be Compassionate: a Handbook for Creating Inner Peace and a Happier World by The Dalai Lama XIV and Jeffrey Hopkins, Hope Dies Last: Keeping the Faith in Difficult Times by Studs Terkel. I'm almost finished with The Not So Big Life: Making Room for What Really Matters by Sarah Susanka.

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: The transmission for The Whorse is still en route, being shipped to the mechanic. I've attended another 1.5 CEU webinar, Adverse Childhood Experiences: Epigenetics, Impacts and Moving Towards Solutions, and I'm already working on getting all of my 2023 CEU requirements out of the way.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: No progress.

Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress. I've made a little more space in the Pump House, just enough for the tool cabinet, by consolidating all of the parts and supplies for The Whorse in one area. I'm also planning to work on the bedroom and the bathroom area of Ol' Number 3 in the near future.

Adventure/Doing Stuff: We went to go see Straight No Chaser, the a cappella group, for their last performance of their 25th Anniversary Tour at the Keller Auditorium on New Year's Eve. We were unexpectedly upgraded to the Orchestra level, and we had plenty of space around us for the show, although we were in the minority of those masked. We were back safe well before Amateur's Night really got started.
