101/1001 Update
Feb. 10th, 2023 05:23 pmThere is a price for success but there is also a price for failure. Given the choice, the price of success clearly has the best return on investment. — Michael Angier
Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I'm really struggling with getting back into any workday routine, and I've stopped and I'm assessing what really going on with my body and my brain. I have, however, trained in three Yang Style Tai Chi/Qigong classes this last week, and three this week. I have a weightlifting plan for the dojo equipment, focusing on chin-ups, but I have not started it yet. There does not appear to be a Spartan Race in Oregon this year, so we may be going to Snohomish, WA for the race.
We've finished January's GoRuck 'Change' Challenge workout, the additional tasking, the book of the month, and finally the rucking requirements, so we slapped the patch in our rucks. The February GoRuck 'Discomfort' Challenge tasks have dropped, late. February's F*CK is "50 Burpees with lateral hop over sandbag for time." The workout is 13 rounds of 7 Ruck Push-Ups (baseline weight), 19 Ruck Squats (baseline weight), and 41 Mountain Climbers (2-count, slick), with a cash out of 13 Man Makers. The rucking and additional challenge is as follows - Week 1: Shoulder Carry (switch shoulders as needed), Week 2: Back Rack Carry, Week 3: Bear Hug Carry, Week 4: Overhead Carry. The book of the month is a film (Stutz: A Film by Jonah Hill). Although the mission brief only said, "[f]ind discomfort by changing up how you carry weight each week this month", and didn't specify a distance, I extrapolated from last month's F*CK and assigned each Shoulder Carry distance to be a mile. We have already watched the film, and the first and second Carries (60-lb. sandbag) are completed.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm still reading How to Be Compassionate: a Handbook for Creating Inner Peace and a Happier World by The Dalai Lama XIV and Jeffrey Hopkins, Hope Dies Last: Keeping the Faith in Difficult Times by Studs Terkel, Your Brain on Food: How Chemicals Control Your Thoughts and Feelings by Gary L. Wenk, and I'm still studying Sun Tzu's Art of War. I have once again 'sat' Zazen virtually for January and registered for the 16 Bodhisattva Precepts (online) classes, a prerequisite for taking Jukai. I have also sat a loving-kindness metta on Zoom for February. I have attended another 1.5-CEU online class, Youth and Young Adult Suicide Prevention.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: My catalytic converter was stolen (again) from the Daily Driver and has been replaced, as well as an oil change and yearly check-up, and I've renewed my registration. The transmission for The Whorse is still at the transmission shop. I've completed all of the financial information for 2022, and all of my tax stuff has been delivered to the accountant.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: No progress.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress. I've picked out a 2-in. 212cc Semi-Trash Water Pump, at 158 GPM, as well as the wheel kit and the 2-in. X 20 Ft. PVC Suction/Intake Hose, and I'm still researching generators. Paying for the pump and accessories will have to wait since I had to buy a replacement catalytic converter. *frown* I did dump the grey and blackwater tanks, although the trailer has a hitch issue, and I need to replace the trailer light connector on the Daily Driver. I also finally got the tool cabinet in the right place in the Pump House, but there's so much stuff to be moved and organized that I can not get to the previously stored tools to put them in the cabinet. We also assembled the generator and temporarily stored it until it can be installed as backup power for the Gate House. Guess where it's currently stored?
Adventure/Doing Stuff: No progress.
