“The most basic of all human needs is the need to understand and be understood. The best way to understand people is to listen to them.” ― Ralph G. Nichols

Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I trained in no Qi Gong/Yang Tai Chi classes for the previous week, due to the Thanksgiving holiday, and then two classes this last week, and I again keep practicing what I know of the Yang Staff Form. I also have started an introductory animal-style Kung Fu class. This is not a hard-style art, more of a middle-path style, and my third class of the week. This last week we rucked the Turkey Trot, for my fifth race of the year, and, counting the walk in from the parking lot, was both my fourth friend ruck and my November F*CK, with a time of 2:08:30. November's GoRuck 'Listen' Challenges are completed.

December's GoRuck 'Explore' challenge tasks are ongoing, although I've made no current progress yet for the mmonth. The workout is the 'GoRuck's 12 Days of Christmas,' which is, "[s]tart with one 100m Sandbag Shuffle. Next do two Thrusters and one 100m Sandbag Shuffle. Then three Sandbag Clean & Presses, two Thrusters, and one 100m Sandbag Shuffle. Continue this way until the final round of 12 Sandbag Man Makers, 11 Sandbag Front Toss, and each movement descending in repetitions all the way down to the one 100m SB Shuffle for 364 total repetitions." The rucking requirement and additional challenge is to, "Ruck any distance with someone you love." The film of the month is Children of Men by Alfonso Cuarón. The F*CK is an All Four Belly Lift Walk strength and flexibility exercise.

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm still reading Hope Dies Last: Keeping the Faith in Difficult Times by Studs Terkel, and Your Brain on Food: How Chemicals Control Your Thoughts and Feelings by Gary L. Wenk. I've also started the Alex Fletcher series by Steven Konkoly, The Method of Zen by Eugen Herrigel, and Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind: Informal Talks on Zen Meditation and Practice by Shunryu Suzuki. However, my meditations have attracted me to The Unfettered Mind: Writings from a Zen Master to a Master Swordsman by Takuan Soho, translated by William Scott Wilson.

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I attended 1-CEU webinars on Co-morbid Eating Disorders and Substance Use Disorders, and Protecting Yourself from Liability: Counselors and Client Boundaries.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: No progress. I've signed up for a 2-day FEMA class, Medical Preparedness and Response for Bombing Incidents, in January in Eugene.

Base Station/Ol' Number 3: We have gotten the excavator out to Base Station to clear the driveway for moving all the vehicles. Trenching the septic system will happen in January.

Adventure/Doing Stuff: I enjoyed another Thanksgiving Dinner with The Old Man, with Tiny and his family in Salem. Fewer vegetables, more smoked turkey, and garlic potatoes. Tiny is one of the few people in my life in my inner circle who makes me a better person.
