101/1001 Update
Feb. 15th, 2024 01:23 am“I don’t regret any of the decisions I’ve made in my life. Because with every choice I’ve made, I’ve learned something new.” — Ariana Grande
Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I only trained in one Shaolin Kung Fu class last week, and also only that same class this week. I've not progressed with the Yang Staff Form and made only mild progress with the Shaolin sword form. I've continued training for the 5K run this weekend, conveniently also for this month's GoRuck challenge. I'm training in half-mile running/quarter-mile walking intervals, slowly increasing the distance.
February's 'Regret' Challenges are ongoing. The workout is the 'Burpee Ladder of Regret,' which is "run[ning] 400m before each set of Burpees, 20-1 Burpees", i.e. "400m run, 20 burpees, 400m run, 19 burpees, 400m run, 18 burpees, 400m run 17 burpees, all the way down until you finish with a 400m run and 1 burpee." The rucking requirement and the additional challenge are, a "30-Minute Ruck Per Week, Ruck 2 minutes forward and 1 minute backwards for 30 minutes." The F*CK is 2 minutes of Max Reps Sandbag or Kettlebell Turkish Get-Ups. I have already completed the third ruck. I have also finished this month's book, Uncertain Ground: Citizenship in an Age of Endless, Invisible War by Phil Klay.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm still reading Hope Dies Last: Keeping the Faith in Difficult Times by Studs Terkel, and Your Brain on Food: How Chemicals Control Your Thoughts and Feelings by Gary L. Wenk. I've also started the Alex Fletcher series by Steven Konkoly, The Method of Zen by Eugen Herrigel, and Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind: Informal Talks on Zen Meditation and Practice by Shunryu Suzuki. I have added The Inside Track: An Inspirational Guide To Conquering Adversity by Peter Sage, The Disaster-Ready Home: A Step-by-Step Emergency Preparedness Manual for Sheltering in Place by Creek Stewart, and Hidden in Plain Sight: Esoteric Power Training Within Japanese Martial Traditions: Tracing the Roots of Ueshiba Morihei's Power, by Ellis Amdur(editor). I 'sat' another virtual loving-kindness Metta, as a makeup.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: No progress. The Daily Driver has a worsening leak in the power steering pump that will need one to two weeks to rebuild and fix. I'll have to restrict driving and keep putting in ATF, checking it every time I drive, until I can drop it off for that long. I've rescheduled my dental appointment, and everything else I can reschedule, until she's fixed.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I finished a double-weekend class, S-290, Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior this last weekend.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress. Septic trenching will be next week, and then gravel on the driveway once the septic trenching has been completed.
.
Adventure/Doing Stuff: No progress. I attended a volunteer appreciation dinner with The Old Man.
