101/1001 Update
Jan. 30th, 2021 11:46 pm"We can ignore even pleasure. But pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world." — C.S. Lewis
Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I've finished the 2021 Back on Track 30-Day Challenge on the 29th, and I've rucked/walked/exercised for 200 miles this month. I completed all of the weekly physical exercises, each done in a day. When I signed up for this virtual race, I bit off a bit more than I could easily chew. Many days this month, I ended up double and triple rucking - both day and night, sun and rain, at odd hours and often late at night, but I got it done.
I'm also still doing the GoRuck January Seek Pain Challenge, as well, and I have completed all of the requirements for that challenge except for getting in tomorrow's daily mile ruck. I've finished the required book, and Faye and I completed the workout on the 28th. This was the last obstacle to completing the January event. The workout was to honor SSGT Robbie Miller, a posthumous Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. It was a 3-mile Ruck, and then 12 Rounds of 6 x Sandbag/Ruck Rows, 6 x Burpee Squats (full Burpee with Jump, followed by Squat), 6 x 4-count Mountain Climbers, and 6 x Rucksack Getups, and then another 3-mile Ruck. It was hard, but my extra daily pushup training really helped. My thighs are still reminding me of the Miller WOD when I climb stairs. *grin* Next month I will continue and increase the pushups and start adding sets of burpees, because the February GoRuck Event workout will be upon me.
Also, I got my bicycle from one of my urban stash locations, and moved it to another location. It needs a bit of maintenance, but I rode it for a bit more than two miles. Extra training!
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm still training mindfulness with my eating patterns. I have meditated daily this month. I've finished Tribe: On Homecoming & Belonging, by Sebastian Junger. It was a short but thoughtful read about humanity and trauma and how modern society conflicts with our tribal instincts, and how the individualist societies we currently must reintegrate into are sometimes more traumatic than the original trauma itself.
Medical issues with The Old Man continue; his surgery went well, so far. He's spending a few days in post-recovery with me at Staging Area, while I attend to his incisions and pain levels. My time in The Staging Area is ending within a month. However, I'm a bit less stressed, with the exercise and movement and the structure of this month.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: No progress on The Whorse.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I'm still doing a weekly 3-hour comprehensive EMT refresher online. I will get my second COVID-19 vaccination next week.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: The Gate House almost ready for The Old Man to move in. He won't have water, but he'll have power and heat and getting to sleep in his own bed. Our goal is to have that happen by his 82nd birthday. *smile* A thorough cleaning, and then moving his stuff from storage carefully and strategically while he recovers from surgery, will be my focus for early February.
Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: No progress. Back to a two-week quarantine after spending a day in Providence St. Vincent Medical Center with The Old Man.
