“Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word happy would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness. It is far better to take things as they come along with patience and equanimity.” - Carl Jung

Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: We have completed this month's rucking requirement of 15 consecutive days with 2+ miles rucking/day, and we have completed this month's Murph WOD (a 1-Mile Ruck, 100 Bent-Over Rows with a 60 lb. sandbag, 200 Push-Ups, 300 Squats, and then another 1-Mile Ruck, all with a 30-lb ruck. I challenged myself by adding another 10 pounds to the ruck for this killer workout; the air squats I banged out with sets of 30 fairly easily, and the bent-over rows with sets of 20, but the pushups, oddly, took the most out of me during the workout. However, my legs have been sore for three days! I've not yet completed the additional tasking this month, to "reach out to and connect with one person you admire greatly, and tell them why", but we have started reading Ashley's War: The Untold Story of a Team of Women Soldiers on the Special Ops Battlefield by Gayle Tzemach Lemmon. I picked up a plate carrier and some plates to train with more and more balanced weight. I'm continuing to work on pushups and situps.

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm still slowly reading Meditations 4, by Thanissaro Bhikkhu (Geoffery Degraff). I'm also still rereading The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz. I've also added Creating True Peace: Ending Violence in Yourself, Your Family, Your Community, and the World by Thich Nhat Hanh, Made for These Times: A Start-Up Guide to Calling, Character, and Work That Matters by Justin Zoradi, and Facing Death: Finding Dignity, Hope and Healing at the End by Jim deMaine. Oh, and a book about Sasquatch. *grin*

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: The Old Man's follow-up appointment pathology came back negative, a very good sign. I should have a bit more time for socializing now.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I'm still doing the weekly triple 3-hour comprehensive EMT refresher series online. Toxicology got canceled, and OB/Neonatal Emergencies also got canceled and rescheduled for next week. We only had Environmental Emergencies this week. Next week will be Pediatric Emergencies, OB/Neonatal Emergencies, and Trauma. I'll have a day of Water Tender/Wildland Firefighter training this weekend, and also another day shift this month at the station next week. The four-day Wildland Firefighter training is still canceled.

Base Station/Ol' Number 3: The electrical system for the Pump House was installed this last weekend, a 13-hour push that went until after midnight. However, the electrical panels are in and code for both the Gate House and the Pump House, there is good shop lighting, there are two outlet receptacles available for the pump and purification system, and there is an exterior receptacle available for the non-potable water system. No more extension cords from the Gate House! There are still more outlet receptacles and work to be done to the Pump House, but we have enough for now. I also managed to get enough sheeting in the back half of the Pump House to cover the insulation before we get the pump installed; it's easier to install the sheeting before the pump installation, while we can still move around the water tank. We are ready for the pump installation!

We still have about 60 feet of RV Dump line to dig out and lay at the proper gradient, past the Gate House to the septic tank, before the septic system can be installed and before we can paint the Gate House. No progress on eliminating more of the slash pile on a permitted burn day and clearing more of the 'living room'/party/visitor/sitting space.

Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: Faye and I housesat at the River House this week, taking care of an older dog named Bailey, drinking coffee and sitting on the deck watching the boats and the wildlife on the Willamette River, and soaking in an awesome hot tub nightly (great after rucking and the 'Murph'!), also watching the river from the hot tub. As part of this month's GoRuck Challenge of daily rucking (and geocaching), we rucked part of Champoeg State Park, as well as the Boeckman Creek Trail Loop, Memorial Park, and the Gettman Trail Loop. Great weather, both day and night, and we took advantage whenever our schedules allowed and had some small but awesome nightcaching adventures.
