The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today. - H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: My rucking total so far this month is only 62.7 miles of the 77 miles rucking requirement, with several days of no rucking due to really bad seasonal allergies and the record-breaking heat. We've finished the book, Band of Brothers, by Stephen E. Ambrose, and I've completed the additional tasking, but I may not get this month's mission done by the end of the month. I have not ridden my bicycle, and I have also not yet contacted the NW Fighting Arts Dojo to use my 16-Class pass.

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm continuing my daily meditation. No real book progress. Haiku.

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: No progress.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I completed the FP-AWR111-217 Basic EMS Concepts for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) Events course; it was a good review of ICS and a grim look at Hazardous Materials and what to do and how to triage a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI). That course completion means another 101 goal is completed, so I'm adding completing the majority of the PeaceHealth StreetMedicine Series, a summer series of live, online, and free ALS courses. I don't need it but it's a good review, especially as I haven't spent much time on a rig.

I have also finished my Personal Disaster Preparedness Plan assignment; there wasn't much change from the former plan, but I updated it for Base Station changes. I also updated and restocked my Ditch Bag at the office - it wasn't due to be checked and repacked until the Fall, but I needed the inventory for the assignment. I've reviewed three of my classmates (one in Sri Lanka!) on their disaster plans and got some good feedback. I have also completed Week 5, an international perspective of Japanese disaster management, Week 6, support and medical considerations, and Week 7, Wilderness Survival, finishing the course. Since I have also finished that 101 goal, I added yet another free online college course back to the list.

Base Station/Ol' Number 3: We installed the main antenna and created a successful ham station at Base Station just in time for Field Day, a third 101 goal completed. Field Day, every June, has more than 40,000 hams throughout North America practice contacting as many stations as possible on different HF bands, and VHF bands, and "to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions." Besides the great practice and testing of the radios, it's a great chance to party with your friends. *smile* We couldn't get the voice/microphone radio to work, but the Old Man worked stations all over the US. Base Station had its first small event, during a 90-degree plus day, and we only had a single guest (fully vaccinated), but this feels more like 'normal.' There were barbeque ribs and grilled corn on the cob, and lots of little clean-up projects completed, mostly onboard Ol' Number 3. Base Station also got more cleanup and organization, the RV tanks dumped, and the picnic table moved to a better spot where it can be used. There's now a covered full-cord firewood rack, half full of dry and drying firewood, where our slash pile was. We've got a full cord total of good firewood, and space for half a cord more.

Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: This last weekend we went to the first geoevent allowed since my geoevent a year ago; what a wonderful time! We found half a dozen geocaches, including a very old geocache (July 2003). This week we took a 6-mile hike/ruck to Ka-Ho-Nee Falls and Elowah Falls in the 90-degree heat on the overgrown Gorge Trail 400. We didn't find many caches, and we didn't get close to either falls as the trails were closed to a recent past landslide, but it was still a great hike and we saw eagles and lots of healing damage from the Eagle Creek Fire. We'll be back.
