101/1001 Update
Jul. 18th, 2021 10:41 pmA warrior must learn to make every act count, since he is going to be here in this world for only a short while, in fact, too short for witnessing all the marvels of it. – Carlos Castaneda
Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: We've completed two of the three required 5-mile rucks. The first was a night ruck where we found two new free libraries, but Faye lost her glasses somewhere on the route - so the second ruck was getting up early and retracing our steps. I'm a quarter of the way through the book. Unfortunately, we didn't find her glasses. The pullup bar has been installed.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm continuing my daily meditation for the month of July. The Zen Temple has had a limited reopening, with vaccination checks and social distancing - so I attended formal zazen and the Dharma Talk. I brought my own meditation bench (that fits me), and I formally sat zazen in the Temple for the first time in fifteen months. I'd really missed that.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I completed the bonus CEU class, "Evaluation and Pharmacological Treatment of Mood Disorders" this week. My Jeep is still in the shop. The Old Man had a follow-up appointment this week to talk about treatment options.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I've completed the ALS Respiratory Emergencies and ALS Cardiovascular Emergencies online courses in the Street Medicine Series. These classes are all above my scope of practice as an EMT, but knowing a bit more than my standard of practice can do nothing but help me and my patient. Next: ALS Neurological Emergencies and ALS Thoracic Trauma.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: More gear, medical supplies, and tools were taken from storage in Portland and stored in the Pump House, and the WorkWhorse (the crumpled Jeep I use for towing the trailer) was also emptied out of all of the gear it had been storing. It's my ride this week, as the daily driver is still in the shop.
Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: No progress.
