“No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.” - Socrates

Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: The December GoRuck 'Sacrifice' Challenge has been completed. The workout was 80 push-ups and a 1-mile Ruck to buy in, then 12 Rounds starting with 7 Sandbag clean and presses, then alternating 41 Flutterkicks on odd rounds, and 41 Mountain Climbers on even rounds, and then a 1-mile ruck plus sandbag, and 80 'slick' (no ruck) push-ups to cash out. We finished just as the snow started coming down pretty hard. Still left: December's Heavy 12-Miler (Baseline + 20% weight in the ruck). The rucking requirement to ruck every day this month is still ongoing. We have a plan to ruck the Heavy 12-Miler while we are doing the F*ck 2021 Race this upcoming week. For October's additional tasking, I wrote a letter to Dear Stranger, a recurring letter-exchange project that connects Oregonians through the mail to share experiences, beliefs, and ideas, sponsored by Oregon Humanities. October's 'Chaos' challenges are complete! I have also participated in two Tai Chi/Qigong classes (the school will close for the New Year holiday).

In January, we'll be engaging in an extra 7-Day Functions Check, in addition to whatever the January GoRuck Challenges are. This means, during those seven days, rucking 25 miles total, as well as no TV, no video games, no social media, and 4 workouts (minimum 30 minutes each) with a partner, in the real world.

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm still reading The Art of War by Sun Tzu from my permanent library, and Dropping the Struggle: Seven Ways to Love the Life You Have by Roger Housden. I have finished reading Final Exam: A Surgeon's Reflections on Mortality by Pauline W. Chen, and I've also finished Walk in My Combat Boots: True Stories from America's Bravest Warriors by Chris Mooney, James Patterson, and Matt Eversmann - a worthy book to read for anyone who works with veterans.

New words: Diacritics are marks placed above or below (or sometimes next to) a letter in a word to indicate a particular pronunciation—in regard to accent, tone, or stress—as well as meaning, especially when a homograph exists without the marked letter or letters. For example, pâte refers to clay whereas pate refers to the head, and résumé or resumé is used for a work history versus resume, which means "to begin again."

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: No progress.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: A very light snowfall with no loss of infrastructure meant our ice/snow event drill was mostly theoretical. A review of supplies and gear, though, is never a bad idea.

Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress.

Adventure/Doing Stuff: No progress.
