101/1001 Update
Mar. 22nd, 2023 05:55 pmThis is as true in everyday life as it is in battle: we are given one life and the decision is ours whether to wait for circumstances to make up our mind, or whether to act and, in acting, to live. — Omar Bradley
Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I'm continuing a mostly daily routine, with two sets minimum of 30 pushups, and three sets of grippers on days I'm in my office. Most days now I'm adding a third set of pushups or a set of air squats. I have trained in three Yang Style Tai Chi/Qigong classes so far this last week, and two classes this week, and I am making small progress with the beginning of the Yang 13 Palms Staff form.
For March's GoRuck 'Luck' Challenge tasks, the rucking requirement was to "carry 35 lbs. for 6 miles" with the Additional Challenge being: "The standard for female CSTs [Cultural Support Teams] was 35# for 6 miles in 1 hour 39 minutes. Meet the standard." We completed the rucking requirement, but it took us 2 hours and 11 minutes. We failed the standard, although we pushed pretty hard. We have also finished the book of the month, The Greatest Beer Run Ever: A Memoir of Friendship, Loyalty, and War by John "Chick" Donohue and J.T. Molloy. We only have the workout left to complete for the month.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm mostly finished reading How to Be Compassionate: a Handbook for Creating Inner Peace and a Happier World by The Dalai Lama XIV and Jeffrey Hopkins. I'm still reading Hope Dies Last: Keeping the Faith in Difficult Times by Studs Terkel, Your Brain on Food: How Chemicals Control Your Thoughts and Feelings by Gary L. Wenk, and Kodo: Ancient Ways: Lessons in the Spiritual Life of the Warrior/Martial Artist by Kensho Furuya. The 16 Precepts Classes have continued, and I have completed my second and third writing assignments.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: No progress. My taxes are filed.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: No progress.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress. I'm in the process of relocating to Base Station. I have replaced the trailer light connector on the Daily Driver. The smaller but more sturdy package mailbox is installed, replacing the damaged plastic one. An appointment for the septic plan is in progress, as is a geoengineering consult/site plan for gravel and concrete for the large vehicle bay and the pole barn. I scored a rain collection barrel, and a fire pit cover in a free box - both things I can use at Base Station. I also managed to score ten 2ft. x 5ft. chrome industrial shelves and all of the shelving hardware for the Pump House. The curtain project for Ol' Number 3 is underway.
Adventure/Doing Stuff: We saw the MANIA the ABBA tribute (Formerly ABBA MANIA) show at Revolution Hall; they were eerily close in sound to the real ABBA, but trying slightly too hard for audience participation. We also had March's Old Man Adventure, visiting the Tillamook Air Museum and the Tillamook Creamery/Cheese Factory and getting our McMenamin's Passport Stamps and swag at Gearhart on the way back to Base Station.
