“Listen with curiosity. Speak with honesty. Act with integrity. The greatest problem with communication is we don’t listen to understand. We listen to reply. When we listen with curiosity, we don’t listen with the intent to reply. We listen for what’s behind the words.” ― Roy T. Bennett

Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I trained in two Qi Gong/Yang Tai Chi classes in my last entry, and I did manage to get a third for the previous week, and then three classes this last week. I again keep polishing what I know of the Yang Staff Form, and I've been lucky to make some small progress. I purchased admission to the 2024 Spartan and Rugged Maniac races. This week will be the Turkey Trot, which I will again ruck, giving me my fifth race of the year, and I may add some distance to the race and get my November F*CK in.

November's GoRuck 'Listen' Challenges are ongoing. The Rucking and Additional Challenge requirements are to, "[p]hone a friend and invite them to ruck with you. Invite at least 1 person per week to ruck with you. If they don't have a ruck then take a coupon (sandbag, kettlebell or medball) on your ruck and trade turns carrying it." The book of the month is Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand. The F*CK is, "[a] 5 Miler For Time at Baseline Weight. Test at the beginning of the month and retest at the end of the month. No music, just listen to your thoughts and breath, focus on the task at hand".

I completed the CHAD1000X on the 11th, and have since went on my second and third of four friend rucks, both almost 2-miler rucks. The second ruck turned out to include a beer, the Ducks Game, and the birthday celebration at the Kennedy School, and the third ruck was more of a quiet, meditative ruck. Again, should anyone on this list want the last fun ruck, please reach out. *smile*

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm still reading Hope Dies Last: Keeping the Faith in Difficult Times by Studs Terkel, and Your Brain on Food: How Chemicals Control Your Thoughts and Feelings by Gary L. Wenk. I've also started the Alex Fletcher series by Steven Konkoly, The Method of Zen by Eugen Herrigel, and Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind: Informal Talks on Zen Meditation and Practice by Shunryu Suzuki.

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I've scheduled my annual Physical.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: No progress.

Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress. The black water tanks were emptied. Property taxes got paid for Base Station. We are halfway through the Great Leaf Dump that happens this time of year, and cleanup will happen after that's done. I have started to migrate stuff out of the way of the logging company coming in the middle of December.

Adventure/Doing Stuff: We went to see Hooveriii, who opened for Mudhoney, one of the founders of the Seattle Grunge scene, at the Alladin Theater; a great high-energy show. I also had an enjoyable early Thanksgiving Dinner at the Senior Center with The Old Man, and another Thanksgiving Dinner with THe Old Man planned, with Tiny in Salem.
