Kung fu lives in everything we do. It lives in how we put on a jacket and how we take off a jacket. It lives in how we treat people. Everything is kung fu. – Jackie Chan

Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing: I'm back to my weekly Shaolin Kung Fu class. We're still working on the nunchaku form and our Circle of Basics. There is no class this week because of Thanksgiving.

October's GoRuck 'Adventure' Challenges are ongoing, but almost complete. All that's left for this month is the F*CKs, max reps of pushups in 2 minutes, and max forearm plank for time. November's GoRuck 'Awe' Challenges are also ongoing. The workout is again the “CHAD 1000X,” which is 1,000 box step-ups completed as a team, partner, or individual for time, wearing my ruck, "[in] honor of Navy SEAL Chad Wilkinson who died by suicide on October 29, 2018 due to the effects of numerous deployments, several TBIs, blast wave injuries and PTSD. Our goal is to honor Chad’s life and legacy and to raise awareness for suicide prevention around Veterans Day every year." The Rucking and Additional Challenges requirement is, "Ruck a 5k (3.1 miles) each week in November & if possible join a turkey trot in your area on Thanksgiving day or find a buddy to ruck with!" The F*CK is Sandbag Thrusters, max reps for 2 minutes, and each rep must have a full depth squat and full lockout overhead. The book is Awe: The New Science of Everyday Wonder and How It Can Transform Your Life by Dacher Keltner.

For Week 3, I got in my 5K rucking, and I completed my half (500 step-ups, 40-lb. ruck) of the CHAD 1000x workout. I'm scheduled for a Turkey Trot ruck the night before Thanksgiving. All that's left are the last two months' F*CKs and November's book-of-the-month.

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm still rereading The Teachings of Don Juan: Journey to Ixtlan by Carlos Castaneda from my permanent martial arts library, and A New Mourning: Discovering the Gifts in Grief by Georgena Eggleston. I've enrolled in another online college course from Stanford University Online, STANHCM01: Healthcare and Crisis Preparation, where I "will explore disaster epidemiology and how to better estimate disaster vulnerabilities. You will also learn about the importance of evaluating a need for a Hazard Vulnerability Analysis and the steps involved in conducting such an analysis. Additionally, you'll learn about disaster management, the intricacies of the Incident Command System and the role of a crisis response team, as well as gain insight into the impact of good communication during a crisis and how the crisis response team can effectively prepare". I have also attended another online CEU webinar, Sexual Addiction and Trauma: An Overview of the Behavior and Treatment Process.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I'm continuing Jim Cobb's Countdown to Preparedness book/assignments. Week 22 is firearms, and I still need to check, clean, and practice more with my existing gear. Week 22 is still on hold. I'm in good shape for Week 36, Crank Radios and Police Scanners. Base Station has an excellent digital scanner, and both The Hideaway and Base Station have crank radios.

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I'm still working through the life insurance policies and the legal issues that have to be resolved by the end of the year; yet another stack of mail has arrived. The Whorse will be ready for pickup on Monday; I'll get her to Base Station and start her rehabilitation and restocking next week. The Daily Driver is getting her front wheel bearings replaced.

Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress.

Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: I DM'd the Deviance party, saw La Bohème at the Portland Opera, and then The Trans-Siberian Orchestra at the Moda Center this last weekend. A busy but fun weekend of contrasts. Kink wear and my DM bag, to formal wear and opera and amazing set design, to casual wear and pyrotechnics and drones. *smile*
