β€œIt doesn't matter how many people you meet in your life; you just need the real ones who accept you for who you are and help you become who you should be.” ― Roy T. Bennett

Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing: I missed last week's weekly Shaolin Kung Fu class due to everyone being sick. I was back this week, then two weeks off for the holidays.

December's GoRuck 'Live' Challenges are ongoing. The workout is the 'Nightmare WOD before Christmas' and is actually a 2-day workout. Day 1 is the 'Jack Skellington' WOD with a buy-in of a 1 Mile run/shuffle, then 50 Burpees, 50 Sit-Ups, 50 Push-Ups, 50 Squats, 50 4ct Mountain Climbers, 50 4ct Jumping Jacks, and 50 4ct Flutter Kicks. Day 2 is the "Lock, Shock, and Barrel" WOD, which is 10 Man Makers, 50 Plank Ruck Pull Throughs, a 400m Ruck, 10 more Man Makers, 50 Ruck Pressed Leg Lifts, another 400m Ruck, 10 more Man Makers, 50 American Twists (2 ct), and a final 400m Ruck. Ugh. The Rucking and additional Challenge is the '12 Days of Christmas' where you, "[p]ick 12 days between December 1st and 25th and ruck a minimum of 1 mile on those days. You choose the load and the distance. Try going a little heavier on the shorter distance rucks and baseline for the longer distances". The F*CK is Sandbag Burpees, 2 minutes max reps with sandbag at baseline weight. The film-of-the-month is It's A Wonderful Life (Black & White Version) directed by Frank Capra.

During Week 2, I added seven more of the twelve 1-mile+ rucks (for a total of 12), completing the rucking and additional tasking requirements. I also watched It's A Wonderful Life (Black & White Version); I found it hard to watch due to a lot of problematic sociocultural values and references. All that's left is the workout and the repeat F*CK.

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: My next book in my martial arts library is Warriors of the Heart by Danaan Parry. I'm still slowly working my way through A New Mourning: Discovering the Gifts in Grief by Georgena Eggleston. I completed a three-part CEU series this week, each worth 1.5 CEUs, based on the holiday: Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Navigating Holiday Stress and Triggers, Silent Nights, Brighter Days: How Buprenorphine Overlap Induction Eases Withdrawal from Fentanyl, and Beyond the Plate: The Emotional Challenges of Holiday Gatherings for Patients with Eating Disorders. I attended a networking dinner at Hopscotch in Portland, which included access to their interesting gallery, curated in collaboration with the Portland Street Art Alliance, titled Immersive Art Experience.

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I'm under some year-end pressure for the life insurance policies and the legal issues that have to be resolved by the end of the year. Another pile of mail has been collected at Base Station. The Whorse will be ready for pickup whenever I can schedule her. I'll get her to Base Station and start her rehabilitation and restocking this winter.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I'm continuing Jim Cobb's Countdown to Preparedness book/assignments. Week 22 is firearms, and I still need to check, clean, and practice more with my existing gear. Week 22 is still on hold. I'm not in very good shape for Week 39, Structure Hardening II - Alarms. There are cameras at both the Hideaway and Base Station, but I've not installed active alarms. Yet. Food for thought. Also, I attended an online MRC meeting presentation: Strengthening the Bridge of Community Data to Public Health Response during Climate Events.

Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress. The weather system needs some work after the big storm, and there are definitely a few mice in Ol' Number 3. I'll be spending some time this winter out there dealing with that.

Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: I ended up holding three Shift Lead Meetings (for a total of six Shift Leads), because ... herding cats. The Medical Team now has 18 volunteers approved on the roster. Additionally, I will be teaching the Rose City DMs about the 10+ most common medical issues that a DM might experience in January.
