Last night I was called upon to be to make medical decisions for a woman who sustained a head injury during a party I attended. Over three hours, I took repeated vitals, performed mental status examinations and neurological/physical evaluations, treated for shock, made stabilization decisions, and held her head and neck stable while she vomited. I made the decision to call 911 and eventually have her professionally transported to a hospital. I was able to provide effective care, provide an informative report, and ensure my patient's safety. There are those on my friends list who helped in many ways, and I am very grateful. I had the room cleared, a cervical collar manifested, the paramedics escorted, and regular updates on the people who I was at the party with. Those people took care of me and my patient so I could focus on those decisions. Chef, Dan, Kes, Jessye, and especially Tam...I cannot thank you enough.
I've been busy. In the last two days, besides my patient, I've called the quarters at an opening ritual, participated in and blessed a marriage, and engaged in two intense one-on-one rituals, and spent a lot of time with Tam. I've had to do a lot of mindset shifting, working from different contexts and having to abruptly change focus. My lesson? Harmony in all things, so that I am able to focus no matter what the Universe provides me, because there's no compartmentalization. I am, regardless of what I choose to respond to that's going on around me.
