So, I’m organizing a team for the Jingle Bell 5K run/walk on Sunday, December 7th. There is a 7am registration, and the run/walk actually starts at 8:50am. You get jingle bells, a run shirt, and the chance to walk or run down the middle of the streets of downtown Portland, with chip timing if you want it, for $25 ($10 for kids). This run is to support the Arthritis Foundation. This is a ‘festive’ run, so running/walking in costume is encouraged. Think of it, perhaps, as a healthier Santacon, and a good training run. *smile* Any interest from anyone? I’d even be willing to buy breakfast afterwards.

Other scheduling/itinerary stuff: I’ll be in TX for a week at Yule, and CA in January, and then likely a Green Tortoise trip in the spring. My fantasy is to be able to take the 14-day San Francisco to Boston trip through most of the southern states, and then return to San Francisco with another 14-day loop through the northern states. That may be my reward/motivation for completing my EPPP.

Phaedrus is generally healthier and seems happier now that I’ve switched him away from his expensive and prescribed diabetic management food and upped his meds. He’s cuddlier and sleeps under the covers with me most nights, and cleans himself a bit more. No more urination accidents, either. The Fortress of Solitude continues to get cleaner and less cluttered – all of my music is now digital; no more CD cases. My thoughts before adding or keeping things are, “will it fit on the bus?” If not, it goes to a good home. I’ve been encouraging others to do the same; this is a helpful time to donate stuff to charities.

What I’m working on: re-reading my library and reconsidering what I may have learned but could be reminded; it’s time for introspection. I’m also adding more physical training, adding endurance and some cross-training at the gym, as well as continuing at least three nights in the dojo. I’m also adding more mental training – working with self-discipline, and conscious and mindful choices with food, activities, and where I choose to be. I’m generally choosing more time with myself and with friends, where I learn best, and less time on the internet.

Thought for the Week: Bethie wrote some time ago that none of us have any control over anything external, but that nothing has control over us, either – unless we allow it to. However, we have complete control over ourselves. Foe example, I have no say in external things (the weather, other people, deadlines, prices, etc.) but I have full control in how I respond to those things. If I’ve allowed something or someone to control or judge me or attach me into a relationship, especially something that is incongruous with my thoughts, words, and actions – I might react by fighting back for control that I never had in the first place, and didn’t need and could never control anyway, and forget the perspective that I only have control of myself – and respond accordingly. The only possible change I’m able to perform – is within myself.

Thank you for the reminder about the control. I had shared that with one of my kids about the one person who had the ultimate control of anything was ourselves because we have the ultimate choice in how we chose to respond to situations, events, and others. It is continually amazing to me how it is so easy to help others see what is right in front of their own eyes, yet when it applies to ourselves it is ridiculously easy to be so blind, when we have the anwers within our selves. Thank you Sempai for the lesson!!

With much love and appreciation,

lacy
