A meme, from a Deshi
Feb. 13th, 2009 02:54 pmThe Rules
1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me" or something of an equally pithy nature.
2. I will respond by asking you 5 questions of a very personal nature. Be warned!
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions, or there will be trouble.
4. You will include this and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them 5 questions.
My responses to her questions:
1. What fear is there for you in being out of control? The fear is the same as wielding an out-of-control weapon. Someone is likely to get hurt or killed. Having said that, I'm human, and there is a great potential to be out of control. Training reduces that potential.
2. Why the Masons? I joined the Free Masons when a roadbrother's (and another BIMC President) son (and my god son) with CP was medically taken care of by the Shriner's Hospital, sponsored by the Free Masons. They wouldn't accept money for his care, so we both joined the Free Masons to give back to them. We are now both Past Masters and life-time members of our respective Lodges.
3. What touches you so deeply that it makes you vulnerable? Love. Honor. Valor. Service.
4. Which character from the Bugs Bunny cartoons would you be? Maybe Bugs himself. Sam the Sheepdog?
5. If you had to pick only one place to live forever, where would it be? Asia. I would move around and train, and learn, and enjoy the culture and arts, as well as the centuries of tradition.
I think, perhaps, I'd like to offer to interview two people: Simone, and Miss Rebecca. However, I'll interview anyone who responds to this. *smile*

I don't think death is the worst fate, but to lose honor...that would not be acceptable.
4. Who makes the very best hush puppies?
Northstar restaurant in Dallas!

Knowing that I don't have to be the strongest. Knowing I have the option to not be the strongest, makes me stronger...

Date: 2009-02-17 09:53 pm (UTC)Accidentally discovering a rather strong bull in a rather intimate china shop, and being forced to take said bull by the horns all on my own, so to speak.
2. What is your most pressing challenge?
Understanding the concept of corporate greediness. I fear that if I don't grasp this the way everyone else does, I may be left with empty pockets. However, it threatens my integrity to have my head excessively turned toward profits.
3. Were you to study a martial art, which one would you choose, and why?
I have studied Tai Chi in the past, and really enjoyed it. I need not have the 'mars' in 'martial'. I like to play with the energy like silly putty, which is what Tai Chi is about.
4. What's the most scandalous rumor you've ever heard about yourself?
That I was stealing money from one of the non-profits that I represent. But everyone knows that records from non-profits must be publicly available, and there's no way I'm that stupid. So yeah, it had no teeth.
5. Where's the best place to get Mongolian food?
I don't know any place locally that doesn't do half the menu out of a can, however, there's this great restaurant in Estes Park, Colorado, right off the main shopping strip. Oh, and one in Seattle around the University district, but I couldn't find it again without help from my Seattle friend.
Hugs.

Date: 2009-02-20 04:04 am (UTC)Life is too short. I have always lived "safe" out of fear of the unknown. I learned while I was in the hospital that nothing is routine and one's life could end in a matter of seconds. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone. My life is changing immensely because of it. I have a bucket list and I'm living life rather than existing.
2. Where is your greatest joy?
Within me. Embracing that inner child and experiencing everything as if it were for the first time. That may change once my first grandchild is born in August. ;)
3. What makes you so successful at work?
I am a perfectionist and I think that the types of customers that I currently deal with appreciate that. I am extrememly organized and amazing at what I do. I'm strong and powerful at work and not afraid to hear someone tell me no. I see that as a challenge rather than a roadblock.
4. What was your favorite meal that you have ever eaten?
My favorite meals have been "favorite" because of the company. My daughter and I had an incredible meal for our birthday several years ago and it was special because it was shared together. My son and I shared an I Declair at Claimjumper on New Year's Eve. That was incredibly special spending that time with him.
5. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Living near the ocean enjoying another chapter of my life.
I'm sorry this took so long, but I've been away from Livejournal while I'm on vacation enjoying Seattle.

Date: 2009-02-23 06:28 am (UTC)It is important to you, so it is important to me. I have been striving to follow the principles of Bushido all along without knowing what the name was. I have become more focused on what it means, how the principles fit together and internalizing honor, courage, rectitude, loyalty, respect, beneviolence and honesty into a practice since having met you. Thank you for teaching me.
2. What would you be willing to sacrifice for your son?
I owe him my life. I was on a self-destructive path and bringing him into the world changed me. I was very young, and in my heart I just knew it was my one chance to have a child if that is what I wanted. So I planned him and he is just what I had hoped a son of mine would be. I admire him greatly and know once he figures out his path in life, he will do many wonderful things. The real question is, what wouldn't I sacrifice for Jimmie?
3. What is your greatest fear?
Never having one great love of my life to grow old with.
4. What is the one choice you made in your life that you regret the most?
Choosing South Carolina over Hawaii. One selfish decision made out of fear of Sea Duty. Of course, I don't know what would have happened in Hawaii, but I'm 99.9% certain it wouldn't have been like ending up in SC.
5. What would you do if you knew you had 10 days to live?
First I would probably get a big glass of red wine, then I would make a list of all the things I wanted to accomplish in 240 hours. I would contact every person I could who meant something to me or at least attempt to, and either meet them or talk with them. I would save a few days for my closest friends and family and laugh, play and enjoy my time as much as humanly possible. I would have a long talk with the powers that be in the soft moonlight and come to terms with my imminent return to the other side.

5. What is the most significant barrier you have to yet overcome?
Re: I'll jump out of that airplane, so to speak
Date: 2009-02-27 03:50 pm (UTC)I sing because I have to. I didn’t sing for a few years because my talent was threatening to my then-girlfriend and I wasn’t confident enough to stand up to her. I was one unhappy puppy. And I will not do that again.
I sing because words and music together are bigger than the sum of their parts.
I sing because words and music together allow my soul to soar, to experience and express every emotion there is, because my brain and my personality need it.
I perform because it allows me to share emotions with an audience, to manipulate what they are feeling; because it allows me to touch souls en masse.
I perform because it allows me to draw attention to myself in ways that are (mostly) positive and (mostly) under my control.
I sing with groups because it allows for bonding like nothing else I know other than physical intimacy. (And there’s some recent scientific evidence of that, too – now I just have to remember where it is because I’m sure you’re going to ask for it.)
I sang as a girl because choir gave me a place to belong and to be successful when I felt like the consummate outsider and failure.
I sing because it is the one thing I truly know that I am very, very good at.
2. Where is the place you really want to visit before you die?
Geographical place is not that important to me. I don’t have to see the pyramids or the great wall of China to be fulfilled. I can learn enough about them from a distance to satisfy me. I want to visit inner space with other humans…with as many as I can, for as long as I can, before I die.
3. What is the skill you most want to learn?
I would like to feel competent making love to a man. This is a set of skills, I know, but it’s the best answer to this question that I have.
4. Where is the best place for chinese food that you know of?
I doubt that it’s the best, but I have fond memories of the Chinese restaurant in Aggieville, just outside of the K-State campus. (I wonder if it’s still there.) I had many nice meals there with friends and had some nice evenings with my then-girlfriend in our dorm room with delivery…
(I can tell you there the best Thai food place is…Tacoma Mall Boulevard.)
5. What is the most significant barrier you have to yet overcome?
Impatience. I am better about it but I’m not there yet.
