grim23OK. Today I bought another motorcycle backpack and most of the little stuff, dug out my chaps that used to fit before I dropped weight, and breathed. I'm heartsick about the loss of Steph's art, and disappointed in myself about the loss of the Travel Bugs - that were not mine to lose. I'll be running without a GPS for awhile, and curtailing my geocaching until I can afford one. I'll be sending emails to the Travel Bug owners and explaining what happened, and offering to buy them new TB dogtags.
The good news is that I didn't lose anything critical like documents with client's names on them, or weapons, or my laptop. I've got a new protocol for insuring my stuff won't be stolen, and a new awareness of my gear. Steph may be able to create new art, although I haven't gotten a chance to talk to her. I may be able to afford new chaps at a discount. I'll eventually be able to buy another GPS online.
That was an expensive lesson on vigilance. I failed the lesson of 'secure yer shit'. It could have been worse. I was, and am, responsible for those Travel Bugs and I'll make it right, as best as I can. I'll come up with the money to get everything back, as best as I can.
