Washington DC Road Trip, Day 1
Jun. 6th, 2010 12:12 amDespite a late start in San Antonio due to traffic, my mother and I are safely in Little Rock, AK. I'm driving, a newer red Dodge Charger - but I'm going no more than the speed limit, using cruise control for most of the 600 miles. Mother and I are doing a lot of talking, and her migraine and her fear are going away. We're eating well, but frugally and lightly for the most part. We're talking about everything, including history, politics, spirituality, and medical and mental health stuff. There is no need for music in the car.
Best Story of the Day: We stopped at Willie's Place, a tourist stop/shrine for Willie Nelson near Dallas. Many of his gold records are there, and many pictures and autographed guitars, used books, and tourist stuff. Mother, in less than 10 minutes, found a 1st-edition of James Crumley she hadn't read before. Price: $2.71 (including tax). Yep, that's my Mom. We were back on the road in 15 minutes.
I'm still decompressing from Flipside. I'm tired, but this trip is very necessary.
