Gratitude

I've just returned from the AZDC (the Arizona Decompression) near Flagstaff, Arizona, for my birthday. Almost three days of no cell-phone reception in the high desert, surrounded by Burners who really know how to do it up right, a spectacular view, an early Burn, a really hot and perfect hot tub, and good art, made a great event. Spike's Vampire bar was well represented by Miss September 2008, who rocked the fashion, and Nation, who worked for hours on my iPod filling it with serious music. I had a 2-inch steak and a cheesecake for dinner, and lots of time to rest and rejuvenate myself. I'd been running on fumes for days, and spent much on Decompression actually decompressing, and getting a sunburn, which really stands out now that I'm back in OR. Now, I'm back to regularly scheduled crises, both professional and personal.

President Amazon of the BIMC, I will continue to say, rocks hard and long, ladies and gentlemen. From the pickup at the airport, to the return just in the nick of time (fastest time through the security line wearing a Utilikilt ever), and everything in between (the hot tub, the Zen Garden, the long snuggles and the languidness, and the leather duster), she simply rocks. Thank you, Queen of The Grape! I'm also grateful to Miss Rebecca who watched Phaedrus, who continues to have problems with urination, and will be again going to see Dr. Mills very soon. A cleaned carpet, some very nice shirts, a well-stacked refrigerator, a plate of peanut butter cookies, and hot coffee were waiting for me when I got home very late last night. Thank you, Miss Rebecca!

My birthday horoscope reminded me, that "There Is Only Now." it reminded me that, "[d]welling on the past and living for the future are common pastimes for many. In order to feel more at home in the present moment, it is important to try to stay aware, open, and receptive. Being in the present moment requires our full attention so that we are fully awake to experience it. When we are fully present, our minds do not wander. We are focused on what is going on right now, rather than thinking about what just happened or worrying about what is going to happen next. Being present lets us experience each moment in our lives in a way that cannot be fully lived through memory or fantasy." The almost overwhelming stillness that happens when you don't listen to the chatter of your mind, and the lack of control because we aren’t busy planning, assessing, remembering or anticipating is unsettling but very necessary - a lesson many of us Warriors, including me, often forget to practice, and we get stuck in our past mistakes or planning the future.
