Today marks the last day of a 28-day mindful eating practice (#26). What did I learn? I learned that I need to consume a lot of meat and vegetables to maintain muscle and energy, and that nuts and fruit are more satisfying than cookies and candy. I learned that I have deep-seated fears about not having enough food, probably from times when I did not have enough. I learned than I am stronger than those fears. I learned that what I thoughtfully choose to consume is a gift, and a reminder of awareness, and another step on my journey.
Yesterday, I took a day off from my usual training and went to Seaworld with a Amateur Radio operator and his family. Yes, I walked several miles and ate mindfully, but this was a celebration. I saw Shamu's show and the beluga whale show, rode a roller coaster, and saw dolphins, penguins, eels, rays, sharks, and various ocean dwellers. And then, of course, I went geocaching. :>
So, where am I on my list of focus before the Burn? I am running a 10k in about 64 minutes (#2), banging out 50+ pushups (#5), 150 situps (#6), working the staff form (#12), and sleeping well (#22). I'm reading The Four Agreements again (#28), and also reading Gyatso's Universal Compassion (#62). I've written a few inspired haiku (#69), mostly about geocaching, and found a way to help someone anonymously (#79) - this is more difficult than it sounds. My physical is pending (#49), and I've had to put aside my bench press goal (#4) and my 'fire cannons on the chopper' goal (#34) for now.
