Goals/Life Update - Day 28/1001
Oct. 31st, 2011 01:21 pmGoals Completed: 0
Goals in Progress: 11
Body: Trained four times this week (#1), including a bo staff clinic (#11). The focus of the clinic was the one authorized bo staff form for non-Dan members, Bong Hyung Chodan, and we spent two hours going over and over that form. After the clinic was over, though, some of us quietly stayed later and worked on learning Bong Hyung Ee Dan. Pushup (#5) count: 50. I'll go running tonight (#3).
Mind: Had a thought-provoking discussion with Sienna (#26) this week. Finished reading Hyams' Zen and the Martial Arts (#28). I'm struck by Hyam's discussion of teaching in the Japanese style: "... "he has not sought out the student, nor does he prevent him from leaving. If the student wants guidance in climbing the steep path to expertise, the instructor is willing to act as guide - on the condition that the student be prepared to take care of himself along the way. The instructor's function is to delegate to the student exactly those tasks which he is capable of leaning, and then to leave him as much as possible to himself and his inner abilities. The student may follow in his footsteps of his guide or choose an alternate path - the choice is his." Thank you to all of those who have guided me over the years. *deep respectful bow* Next book: the full reading of Wilson's (trans.) Budoshoshinshu: The Warrior's Primer of Daidoji Yuzan, a gift from Miss Rebecca. I've been meaning to do more than scan this book for some time, and now is the time to start a new book (#32).
Work: No progress.
Life: Waiting for others to make decisions about the former Fortress of Solitude (#52). There is a possibility that the CERT classes (#91) may be scheduled sooner than early March due to high interest. Yet more little projects have been completed on 'Ol Number 3, and she now has a solid CB mount and an extension speaker so radio communications can be more easily heard over the engine. Next step: antenna mount and power connection. Family issues have become clearer, and there is a date in the near future for more meetings after Wurstfest. I've been geocaching some this week, and scored a yet another geocache that had a difficulty/terrain rating than I've had before (#96). Saw the first of a dark TV series entitled 'Grimm' last night, filmed in Portland, and it echoed my Samhain thoughts and dreams as I recognized many of the places.
