I found out tonight that Phaedrus, a cat that I lived with for years since he was a kitten, is dead. Miss Rebecca had taken excellent care of him while I was in Texas, and she called tonight to tell me that he died this last weekend. Phaedrus was an old cat, with diabetes, and he was loved when he was with me - and loved even more when he was with her. He lived far longer than expected. Miss Rebecca and her son were right there when he passed.
Phaedrus was a loving and stubborn cat, who would wake me up by licking my nose for breakfast. He was very dignified and wise, and my main solace for many years. He knew when I'd had a bad day, or I was hurt, or lonely, and he would stay close to me. Of all of my life in Oregon I miss when I am in Texas, I missed him the most. In his way, he taught me much. My heart is breaking right now.
