Goals/Life Update - Day 250/1001
Mar. 8th, 2015 08:53 pm“A... [w]arrior worries effectively: acknowledge that the thing you worry about (perhaps secretly) could happen. Then imagine: if it did happen, what is one small thing you could do to help yourself get through it? In the long run, doing that one small thing may serve you better than doing nothing, hoping it won’t happen, or expecting someone else will save you or fix it." - Pam England and Virginia Bobro
Goals Completed: 7
Goals in Progress: 28
This week at the Firefighter Academy (#67), we got quite a workout. On Saturday, we learned how to get out turn-outs and bunker gear on and ready in less than a minute, and how to don and use SCBA in less than 90 seconds. Then, we ran around the building twice with a 40-pound SCOTT pack on full air and full turnouts after our instructor. I’m happy to say I led the group. On Sunday, we spent the whole day on Structural Search, Victim Removal, and Firefighter Survival. In full turn-outs and respirators, we learned how to search, find, and remove victims and other downed firefighters with firefighting tools and a charged hose in smoke-filled rooms – and then we were purposely separated from the hose and the team, blindfolded, disoriented by spinning us around, and we had to find our way out. “Mayday, Mayday, Mayday, Engine 488, Recruit [Grim], separated from Floor 2 hose and disoriented, air at 40%, standby RIT.” My back, knees, arms, brain, and hips ache. I have a whole new respect for firefighters.
I’m still reading my new spirituality book (#18), and I’m still continuing my daily meditation practice (#22), and still doing three sets of 40 push-ups and sit-ups (#07, #08) on non-training days. I was only able to train for two hours (#01, #10) this week, but I’ll make that up next week.
