Firefighter Intern: Day 5
Apr. 19th, 2018 05:27 pmI can think of no more stirring symbol of man's humanity to man than a fire engine. - Kurt Vonnegut
I walked in the station at 8 am, poured a cup of coffee and had 3 sips, and then ... a patient transport from Westport to St. John's. I drove better and more confidently, but still working on the radio protocols. Once we were back in quarters, I finally got my locker, the closest one to the bays. I started laundry because I didn't have any more clean uniforms. Then it was time to work out at 1030, and I was shown a close paved loop that kept me from being too far away if there was a call. I ran two miles, plus a warm-up and a cool-down lap. After lunch, we did some yard work in the sun for an hour because we have an Open House this weekend, and then I drove our Utility truck (U-482) to escort our new brush truck from Mallory Safety, where the new water tank was installed, to the city shops in St. Helens to have her gearboxes installed. Once we got back, I finished laundry and moved into my locker. We had an uneventful dinner and then ... back to Westport for another patient transport to St. John's.
No firefighting training today, but lots of practice and training in Medic 482 with gurney prep, driving Code 1, fueling and maintaining the rig, and radio practice, "C-COM, Medic 482 clearing St. John's, returning, available. "
