One of the tests of leadership is the ability to recognize a problem before it becomes an emergency. - Arnold H. Glasow

Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I'm continuing to add the Spartan bodyweight exercises to my pushup challenge. At a friend's suggestion, I'm adding 30 minutes of yoga. I broke my plateau and I was able to do two sets of 60 pushups. The Spartan bodyweight exercises are definitely adding strength and endurance, and the yoga is aiding recovery and flexibility. I have a virtual race coming up this weekend!

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I finished Search and Rescue by Dr. Christopher Van Tilburg for my disaster preparation list; besides being a local book about SAR on Mount Hood and the Columbia Gorge, it was a good book about the perspective of rewards versus risk. I'm adding Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed. I'm back to reading Shunryu Suzuki's Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind from my permanent library, and Being Wrong: Adventures in the Margin of Error by Kathryn Schulz. I'm still committing to training mindfulness with my eating patterns. I've been distracted with family issues this week.

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: The Whorse, my Ranger Intercept Jeep, may be coming out of storage in Empire, NV, and being towed north by a good friend coming up to visit this week. The Whorse has a bad transmission, but it will be soon worked on and loved back into duty over the winter. She'll need lots of work. I'm scheduled for my yearly physical with all of the subsequent lab work, including my yearly STI/STD screening. I still need to schedule my Firefighter's Physical, and update my BPLS/CPR certification.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: No progress on goals. I repacked both my CERT bag and my GFTS (Get to the Station) bag; my CERT Bag rides in my GFTS bag because as soon as I'm not needed as a firefighter I'll likely be needed on CERT operations. I spent eight more hours at the fire station, again assigned to Engine 481. I worked alongside two new probation firefighters, doing a lot of hose management, loading, and deploying Minuteman hose deployment loads out of the Engine for multiple evolutions of fire attack at different angles and with different obstacles. We also practiced with the commercial packs, both from the Engine and from a simulated FDC, practicing learning distance and set up with the 3-inch supply line, giving us longer reach into places like hotels and big industrial spaces. This is our bread and butter practice, so no sign-offs in my new Firefighter I certification taskbook.

Base Station/Ol' Number 3: Everything was delayed due to rain. Base Station has several mature apple trees, and one pear tree, producing lots of fruit. I had pork chops with baked apples from our trees, and pears and blackberries on a waffle for breakfast. *smile* The internet and phone line subcontractors for Base Station completed burying the line from the road to their box, and the internet line is hooked up at the Gate House, but the connections inside the box at the street still have to be connected; the provider tech is coming on the 28th. *sigh* The rain does mean that we don't need to water the drainfield daily, and we have a 250-gallon reserve of non-potable water ready for use for construction or for fire protection or for washing a certain very dirty bus.

The contractor is coming to install drain waste vent pipe on Tuesday for the Gate House, and maybe set up forms to pour concrete for the Pump House and the antenna base. All of the antenna sections are now at the Gate House, as well as the 1000-gallon septic tank, and the distribution box, and the seals for the system. I ordered the 3000-gallon water tank for the Pump House, and I should be able to pick it up this week. Our plans for painting the Gate House may be postponed due to weather. The new firepit and the cover have also been delivered. The excavator should also be out this week to finish leveling the ground for the septic system, as well as starting to dig holes and trenches, for the septic installation.

Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: I found two more geocaches on the last of the days in September I needed to complete the Found by Found Days Challenge. I only need one more day in February to complete this goal.
