101/1001 Update: Snowpocalypse
Feb. 13th, 2021 05:11 pmTo practice Zen or the Martial Arts, you must live intensely, wholeheartedly, without reserve - as if you might die in the next instant. - Taisen Deshimaru
Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I still have to complete the February GoRuck workout, complete the additional tasking (write and send four hand-written letters), and read the book A Warrior’s Creed, by Roger Sparks. I have a replacement for January's challenge patch for my ruck being sent. I'm still doing three sets of 50 pushups a day, and I've added another set of 10 burpees daily to train for the workout.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm still training mindfulness with my eating patterns. I continue to meditate daily this month. I've finished Zen in the American Grain by Kyogen Carlson, a former Abbot of the Dharma Rain Zen Temple here in Portland. It's a quite good, accessible read that well explains his integration of Zen practice with regular life as not only possible but inevitable. I am rereading (it's been maybe 15 years?) Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. I'm still getting used to the virtual zendo for some makeup formal zazen.
The Old Man's follow-up appointment was canceled due to the Snowpocalypse, but that meant that he is safe at The Staging Area, and has more time to heal. We have elected to shelter in place, with enough supplies and preparation for several days, despite the majority of my supplies having been already redistributed elsewhere. There is little reserve, but I have my EDC bag and some food and a few extra medical supplies here, and we have power and internet, and books.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: No progress on vehicles due to the Snowpocalypse.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I'm still doing a weekly 3-hour comprehensive EMT refresher online. No shifts are open at the station as of yet.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress due to the Snowpocalypse.
Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: No progress. I still hope to complete the Geocaching Finds by Found Date goal next week.
