101/1001 Update
Mar. 5th, 2021 09:04 pmUnless commitment is made, there are only promises and hopes; but no plans. - Peter F. Drucker
Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: Faye and I have slapped the February Patch on our rucks, with about an hour and a half left in our deadline to get it done. We've already well into the March Challenge, and I have finished rereading Fight Club, the Goruck Challenge March Book. I have added a ten-lb. weight to my ruck, and we have rucked all three of the three 2-mile rucks required (with me doing an extra 2-mile ruck, just because). We still have an 8-mile ruck to complete. I'm still keeping up on 3 x 60 pushups and 3 x 15 burpees, and I'll be bumping that up to train for the March workout, and the additional tasking: "do one miserable thing (with someone else) that you haven't done in at least a year. You should be scared, at least a little bit, to do it."
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm still meditating daily, still around the distractions of moving in. I'm experimenting with different postures, and occasionally getting onto the virtual zendo and engaging formal zazen by Zoom - that oddly works with loving-kindness metta. I finished Stuff White People Like by Christian Lander, a book with 150 brief descriptions about White Privilege and sociocultural considerations. At the end of the book, there is a brief quiz related to the 150 preferences - I scored about 20%, being into Outdoor Performance Clothes and Portland, Oregon, but not into Modern Furniture, Oscar Parties, or Michel Gondry. A good reminder about how we are shaped by culture and race. I'm reading Soul of the Samurai: Modern Translations of Three Works of Zen & Bushido, by Thomas Cleary. The three works are: The Book of the Sword by Yagyu Munenori, The Inscrutable Subtlety of Immovable Wisdom and The Peerless Sword, both by Takuan Soho, and appear to be quite insightful. This may get added to my permanent library.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I need three CEUs of Counselor Ethics and I will have completed this year's educational licensing requirements, although I'm still going to grab some extra free online CEUs when I can. The old daily driver has been reassigned to Base Station as the tow vehicle and the parts/tools vehicle. The Whorse is still being worked on, but is a lower priority than the other vehicles. I've gotten my new daily driver, a slightly newer (but more miles) blue-gray Jeep Grand Cherokee, with all of the options. She's cleaner and a bit nicer (now) than the other Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I'll be outfitting her a bit differently. She'll probably get a good Yakima Rack and a light bar or two, eventually.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I'm still doing a weekly 3-hour comprehensive EMT refresher online. The Old Man is still waiting on insurance approval and he'll likely undergo his second surgery in a couple of weeks.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: The Old Man has gotten two more loads of boxes and things to the Gate House, and we have successfully moved all of the tools and gear from the Staging Area to Base Station. We also got water to the Old Man's RV and dumped the tanks. I'll be back tomorrow to move more things and to get restarted on some of the Base Station projects that were delayed by rain. The Pump House is progressing and is being framed in, and soon we'll be getting the pump and filtration system installed. This weekend will again be filling water and dumping tanks out at Base Station, and moving more of The Old Man's stuff into the Gate House.
Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: No progress. Still on quarantine for another week.
