Keep yourself simple, good, pure, serious, and unassuming; the friend of justice and godliness; kindly, affectionate, and resolute in your devotion to duty. — Marcus Aurelius

Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: The September GoRuck 'Duty' Challenge has dropped. The workout, honoring the firefighters and first responders of 9/11, with the "goal should be to go HEAVY", is a 2001 meter Ruck, 11 Box Jumps or Step Ups with Ruck, 11 Thrusters, 11 Pull-Ups, 11 Power Cleans, 11 Ruck Push-Ups, 11 Ruck Swings, 11 toes to bar/ruck V Ups, 11 Deadlifts, 11 Push Jerks, and another 2001 meter Ruck. The rucking requirement this month is one 13-Miler (one mile for each service member who died in Afghanistan) at baseline weight. The additional tasking this month is a "Functions Check" - a 7-day challenge to complete 10,000 Steps/Day - 100% outside, including 3 workouts, 30 minutes minimum (also 100% outside), with no social media or video games, "as in zero", with "eat well, prioritize sleep, talk to people in the real world" as a guideline, and (optionally) with no alcohol, caffeine, or tobacco. We are to read Fall and Rise: The Story of 9/11 by Mitchell Zuckoff.

I have started training Tai Chi and Qigong again; It felt good to be outside in the sun working the Yang Short Form, even though we are masked. I will be striving for at least three classes a week.

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I have sat formal Zazen online, with the Dharma Talk and a koan. I have read Will Not Attend: Lively Stories of Detachment and Isolation by Adam Resnick, and The Opposite of Loneliness: Essays and Stories by Marina Keegan. I'm still reading The Places That Scare You: A Guide to Fearlessness in Difficult Times by Pema Chödrön, as well as Seeking Enlightenment... Hat by Hat: A Skeptic's Path to Religion by Nevada Barr, and Everything is F*cked: A Book About Hope by Mark Manson.

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I have been administered my flu vaccination. Besides potentially protecting me from influenza, it helps conserve potentially scarce healthcare resources. Because the flu season in 2020-2021 was virtually non-existent, thanks to COVID mitigation measures like mask-wearing and social distancing, it's likely that the upcoming season will be severe. Also, the WorkWhorse is out of the shop and back to work at Base Station.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I have signed up for several of the Critical Care Transport classes in September and October.

Base Station/Ol' Number 3: Excavation and installation of the septic system will be restarted in the next few weeks, although apparently the excavator/contractor and their whole family have COVID-19. We are starting the painting process for the Gate House and the Pump House. All of the RV grey and blackwater tanks have been emptied, and we've enjoyed a small harvest of apples, berries, pears, cherries, and one filbert.

Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: We went to Lindsey Stirling's Artemis concert, masked the whole time, and got seats at the top of the nosebleed section (the nearest people were three rows and five seats away) with great ventilation - and it was a great concert, with VooDoo Dougnnuts afterward!
