101/1001 Update: 30 days left!
May. 7th, 2022 11:23 pm"The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well." - Hippocrates
Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I've managed to pick up a non-COVID cold/flu (tested twice) that's slowed me down considerably this week, and physical training is pretty much off the table. I was still maintaining 200 mostly daily pushups, in four sets; I'll get back to that as soon as I can I also took a recovery day after Safety Northwest. I'm still continuing an extra set of max reps with the pushup bars, and two sets of 20 forearm grippers, on workdays. I've only trained in one Qigong/Tai Chi class this week, staying masked.
There's been little progress on last month's GoRuck Challenge. We still have April's WOD, and March's bonus WOD, to complete - and I also have the book to read, before we get started on May's GoRuck 'Reverence' Challenge. The Reverence workout is the Murph - a 1-Mile Ruck, 100 Pull-Ups, 200 Push-Ups, 300 Squats, and then another 1 Mile Ruck. Bent over sandbag rows are an allowed substitute for the pull-ups. The rucking requirement is two 5-miler rucks at baseline weight, as well as "either as standalone or combined with 5 milers above, ruck 2+ miles in the vicinity of a local cemetery. No noise, only respect". The additional tasking this month is to, "visit a grave and make an offering".The book this month is Empire of the Summer Moon by S.C. Gwynne.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I've finished reading Moving To Higher Ground: How Jazz Can Change Your Life by Wynton Marsalis with Geoffrey C. Ward, and I've started The Chinese Martial Code: The Art of War of Sun Tzu, The Precepts of War by Sima Rangju, Wu Zi on the Art of War by A. L. Sadler. I'm keeping up my daily meditation practice for May. The last set of haiku for this 101 list is below.
New words: Iatrophobia is "the condition of having an extreme fear of doctors or medical tests." Sagacious means "having or showing an ability to understand difficult ideas and situations and to make good decisions." Stare decisis is “a doctrine or policy of following rules or principles laid down in previous judicial decisions unless they contravene the ordinary principles of justice.” Uxoriousness means “the state of being excessively fond of or submissive to a wife.”
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I completed another online CEU seminar, Couple–Centered Recovery®: A Relational–Psychobiological Approach to Healing Compulsive Problematic Sexual Behavior. I've also completed the online training portion for the Black Rock City Rangers training, and I am scheduled for the in-person portion of the training this June.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I have completed two more classes of the Community Health Paramedicine course, MIH Chronic Disease Management Part 2 and MIH Mental Health, completing my goal - but I'll continue taking these very valuable classes.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: I'm still awaiting the inspection report for the electrical and mechanical permits and still working on the septic system plan.
Adventure/Doing Stuff: Canceled until I feel better.
Haiku
doing what I can -
completing goals while ill,
despite depletion
relearning old skills
after three years, new spin
don't fuck it up!
the last haiku
three of thirty-three thoughts
Well worth it!
