101/1001 Update
Apr. 20th, 2023 11:35 pmIn the long run, you make your own luck - good, bad, or indifferent. — Loretta Lynn
Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I'm continuing a mostly daily routine, with two sets of a minimum of 30 pushups, but I'm made progress to limited sets of grippers. I can make a soft fist; most of the swelling has gone down except around the joint. Some days now I'm still adding a third set of pushups or a set of air squats. I have trained in three Yang Style Tai Chi/Qigong classes this last week, and three this week, as well as an online QiGong class with a roommate. I am continuing to make small progress in the Yang 13 Palms Staff form, finally moving to strikes in two basic directions.
We completed March's GoRuck 'Luck' Challenge workout and slapped the patch on our rucks. It was the Groundbreakers workout, that was 7 rounds of 10 Push Ups (no ruck), 22 Ruck Single Arm Rows (11 each arm), 11 Sandbag Push Presses(no ruck), 10 Ruck Squats, 6 Ruck Reverse Lunges (each leg, with ruck), and 13 Ruck Swings. I used my baseline wieght in my ruck (35 lbs.) and my 60-lb. sandbag. I struggled with overheating and the concrete floors, and with my grip, but we got it done and slapped the patch on our rucks. We've planned April's GoRuck 'Grit' Challenge ruck, which is "this month, ruck 6 miles with your baseline weight and take a die from a board game. Right after you finish rucking 6 miles, roll the die. Whatever number it lands on, that's how many additional miles you ruck. For example, [if] you roll a 6, you will ruck a total of 12 miles that day."
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm still reading Hope Dies Last: Keeping the Faith in Difficult Times by Studs Terkel, Your Brain on Food: How Chemicals Control Your Thoughts and Feelings by Gary L. Wenk, and Kodo: Ancient Ways: Lessons in the Spiritual Life of the Warrior/Martial Artist by Kensho Furuya. I've sat a loving-kindness metta, still virtually.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I have completed the renewal of my Oregon Emergency Medical Service Provider (EMSP) license, so I'm an EMT for two more years until I have to renew again. I've also completed the 2023 Black Rock Ranger Online Course, in case I decide to go and Ranger at Burning Man this year; I'll still need a short in-person training before I can actually sign up for shifts, but this gives me options. I have also completed an online 1.5 CEU course, Guns, Safety Plans and Resources for Service Members, Veterans & Families. I've started a small woodworking project to fix a broken shoeshine box to hold all of my shoe/boot maintenance supplies. I have updated all of my identification documents.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: No progress. I've completed consolidating and inventorying all of the gear I have at the Hideway.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress. I'm still in the process of relocating to Base Station. A permit for the septic plan is still in progress, as is a geoengineering consult/site plan for gravel and concrete for the large vehicle bay and the pole barn. The geoengineer should send his findings this week. The blackwater tank has been emptied. The industrial shelves and all of the shelving hardware are still in the Pump House and ready to be installed and loaded. I'm still waiting for a nicer day to empty the old shelves and install the better shelving. The curtain project for Ol' Number 3 is actually in the bus but not installed, and the end cabinet for the tool cabinet is in the Pump House, but also not installed. I also took advantage of a sale and got $60 off a 2-inch Trash Pump and the wheel kit, and they are also in the Pump House, ready to be assembled and tested. The Trash Pump will be able to empty out the Pump House Water storage tanks if we need to - and will be a great fire suppression tool if needed, at 158 gallons a minute.
Adventure/Doing Stuff: We went to see Churchill at the Portland Centers for the Arts, an "often funny, sometimes touching and always engaging one-man-show" with veteran British actor, David Payne.
