101/1001 Update
Apr. 10th, 2023 12:23 pmMartial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I'm continuing a mostly daily routine, with two sets minimum of 30 pushups, but no sets of grippers due to an injury to my finger. I can almost make a fist; most of the swelling has gone down. Most days now I'm still adding a third set of pushups or a set of air squats. I have trained in three Yang Style Tai Chi/Qigong classes this last week, and I am continuing to make small progress in polishing the beginning of the Yang 13 Palms Staff form. For March's GoRuck 'Luck' Challenge tasks, we still only have the workout left to complete for the month. We'll have to get this workout done once I've healed. No progress with April's GoRuck Challenge.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I've finally finished reading How to Be Compassionate: a Handbook for Creating Inner Peace and a Happier World by The Dalai Lama XIV and Jeffrey Hopkins. I'm still reading Hope Dies Last: Keeping the Faith in Difficult Times by Studs Terkel, Your Brain on Food: How Chemicals Control Your Thoughts and Feelings by Gary L. Wenk, and Kodo: Ancient Ways: Lessons in the Spiritual Life of the Warrior/Martial Artist by Kensho Furuya. The 16 Precepts Classes have been completed, and I have completed all of my classes and writing assignments.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I completed another online kink class with Deborah "Kink Shrink" Fields, a UK Psychotherapist, on the topic of Therapy Styles and Approaches. I also attended Kinkfest this last weekend and attended eleven classes: Botanica Erotica: Kinky Plants for Pleasure, Pain, and Passion, The Best Kink Advice Nobody Told You, Kink & Disability, Co-Topping for More than Double Impact, Kink and Neurodivergence, BDSM & The Law, Chronic Pain and SadoMasochism, Don’t Tell Me What I Can’t Do: Dark Disability Play, Power Exchange for the Long Haul, The Science of Fear, and Building, Negotiating, and Executing a Dynamic Mindfuck Scene. This was more than enough to complete my 'take 10 kink classes' goal. I will continue taking classes, learning, and getting 'informal' CEUs - this is very helpful for my clients and myself. I was also a volunteer DM for Friday and Saturday of Kinkfest, and it was good to be of service to the community. There seemed to be fewer interesting things in the Vendor Area, and less social events, but I was mostly there for the classes. I did get my tactical boots repaired and maintained by my favorite bootblack.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: Assigned to Engine 486, I worked a hose line on a training burn, a four-hour defensive firefighting drill very near the Zen Monastery in our district, this week. My task was to allow the house to burn, controlling the fire direction but denying fire and heat to a metal shed 20 feet away, protecting the exposure and especially the electrical meter attached to the wall of the shed. I practiced hose management and indirect fire attack, and learned more about exposures, collapse risk, and how to advance with a protective fog. This was very similar to my duties at SOAK and Burning Man, but I had the Chief and the most senior volunteer firefighter coaching and mentoring me for much of the operation. I also picked up a few more sign-offs in my NFPA Fire Fighter I task book.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress. I'm still in the process of relocating to Base Station. A permit for the septic plan is still in progress, as is a geoengineering consult/site plan for gravel and concrete for the large vehicle bay and the pole barn. The geoengineer should send his findings this week. The industrial shelves and all of the shelving hardware are still in the Pump House and ready to be installed and loaded. I'm waiting for a nicer day to empty the old shelves and install the better shelving. The curtain project for Ol' Number 3 is actually in the bus but not installed, and the end cabinet for the tool cabinet is in the Pump House, but also not installed.
Adventure/Doing Stuff: No progress.
