101/1001 Update
May. 2nd, 2024 05:55 pm“I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.” – Stephen Covey
Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I've trained in two Shaolin Kung Fu classes and no Qi Gong/Yang Tai Chi classes these last two weeks. I've made no progress with the Yang Staff Form. I am still gearing up for the Bloomsday 12K Race this weekend.
April's GoRuck 'Nurture' Challenges are ongoing. I completed the workout, which was 7 rounds of a 400m run and 29 Sandbag Back Squats (60 lb. sandbag), in honor of 1st Lt Travis Manion, USMC - but I got it done late (today). I still have the Rucking and Additional Challenge, which is to, "Shoot to Ruck 20 or more miles, dealer's choice. Work on building up to your chosen distance & schedule a day that works for you towards the end of the month and ruck 20+ miles." I have not had a spare day to finish this off. I have continued training for the long ruck, getting in a few miles almost daily, with a distance of more than 3 miles so far on many days, and one day at 9+ miles. Getting this month's challenges done will take me some extra time due to other training stuff; see below. I'm saving the F*CK, which is the 60x60 (June 2023 retest), a Max Sandbag Burpees in 60 seconds with 60-lb. sandbag, to prepare for May's Challenges.
May's GoRuck 'Remember' challenge tasks have dropped. In addition to what I have left of April's tasks, the rucking and additional tasking are, "1 mile Ruck each day for the month of May. You choose the load. Challenge yourself by switching up what you carry. For example, add a little more weight to your ruck, put on a weight vest, add a sandbag, or do a farmer's carry." The workout is again 'The Murph', which is a 1 Mile Ruck, 200 Sandbag Bent Over Rows or 100 Pullups, 200 Push-Ups, and 300 Squats and then another 1 Mile Ruck, all while wearing a 20-lb. weight Vest/Plate carrier, and with a 60-lb. Sandbag. The F*CK is a Murph Prep: a 1-mile ruck, shuffle or run with ruck or weight vest for time (you pick the weight), a May 2023 Retest. The movie (TV series) of the month is Masters of the Air. I have, so far, kept up with at least a daily mile ruck.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I've started back up with the books in this entry, including The Inside Track: An Inspirational Guide To Conquering Adversity by Peter Sage, The Disaster-Ready Home: A Step-by-Step Emergency Preparedness Manual for Sheltering in Place by Creek Stewart, and Hidden in Plain Sight: Esoteric Power Training Within Japanese Martial Traditions: Tracing the Roots of Ueshiba Morihei's Power, by Ellis Amdur(editor). I've also checked out from the Kinky Library Living M/s; A Book for Masters, slaves, and Their Relationships by Dan and Dawn Williams.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: No progress.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I went to Eugene for two days for the rescheduled MGT348 Medical Preparedness and Response for Bombing Incidents. I saw some very graphic stuff and learned a lot. I have a different and more effective perspective on triage, especially in the context of being a secondary target as an emergency responder. I have also attended a 6-CEU online class on military deployment trauma, and a 1.5 CEU online class called What's Relationships Got To Do With It? The Application of Interpersonal Psychotherapy in the Treatment of Eating Disorders. I've also taught high-pressure attack line tactical movement at Safety NW, the three-day training weekend for SOAK.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress.
Adventure/Doing Stuff: No progress.
