101/1001 Update
Apr. 13th, 2024 11:32 pmBody/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I've trained in one Shaolin Kung Fu class and two Qi Gong/Yang Tai Chi classes this week. I've reviewed what I used to know and made very mild progress with the Yang Staff Form. I completed the minimum progress to pass testing with the Shaolin sword form, but I am certainly not proficient. I am also gearing up for the Bloomsday 12K Race.
April's GoRuck 'Nurture' Challenges are ongoing. The workout is 7 rounds of a 400m run and 29 Sandbag Back Squats (60 lb. sandbag), in honor of 1st Lt Travis Manion, USMC. The Rucking and Additional Challenge is to, "Shoot to Ruck 20 or more miles, dealer's choice. Work on building up to your chosen distance & schedule a day that works for you towards the end of the month and ruck 20+ miles." The F*CK is the 60x60 (June 2023 retest), which is a Max Sandbag Burpees in 60 seconds with 60-lb. sandbag. The month's book is Never Enough: When Achievement Culture Becomes Toxic - and What We Can Do About It by Jennifer Breheny Wallace. I've already started training for the long ruck, getting in a few miles almost daily, with a distance of more than 5 miles so far on a couple of days, and one day at 8 miles. I have already finished the book.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I've started back up with the books in this entry, including The Inside Track: An Inspirational Guide To Conquering Adversity by Peter Sage, The Disaster-Ready Home: A Step-by-Step Emergency Preparedness Manual for Sheltering in Place by Creek Stewart, and Hidden in Plain Sight: Esoteric Power Training Within Japanese Martial Traditions: Tracing the Roots of Ueshiba Morihei's Power, by Ellis Amdur(editor). I've also checked out Living M/s; A Book for Masters, slaves, and Their Relationships by Dan and Dawn Williams from the Kinky Library.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: No progress.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: This week I'll be in Eugene for two days for the rescheduled MGT348 Medical Preparedness and Response for Bombing Incidents, and then back to Columbia County for our annual live fire training. Next weekend is Safety NW, a three-day training weekend for SOAK. I expect to be in my uniform or turnouts a lot this month.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: The septic system is finished, as is the graveling of the driveway.
Adventure/Doing Stuff: No progress. The last Kinkfest Zoom meeting happened, and I don't have to think about that responsibility for another six months or so.
