“Healing is not a race; it’s a quiet, steady return to yourself.” – Dr. Lila Moreno

Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing: I was on break from the weekly Shaolin Kung Fu class for the holidays, and looking forward to returning - but then one of my clients exposed me to 'The Sick', a flu/virus strain that wasn't covered under my flu vaccine - a new strain of influenza A H3N2, called subclade K. Congestion, fever, forced coughing with gag reflex, COVID-like brain fog, and body weakness have left me in my bed for four days. Yes, I did test for COVID, and I was negative both times. Fortunately, I had enough OTC meds and food (and some amazing friends who delivered me more), as well as burrito therapy. I'm still down, but getting up.

I did sign up for the 2026 Providence Heart To Start 5K on February 21 and the Bubble Run at PIR on May 30th, and I'm eyeing a couple more fun runs this year.

January's GoRuck 'Origin' Challenges are ongoing, but no progress. The 'Origin Strike' workout is a Buy In of a 1-mile ruck (walk or shuffle), then a 20-minute AMRAP of 5 Ruck Hand Release Push Ups, 10 Ruck Squats, and 15 Sandbag Bent Over Rows, and a Cash Out of a 400m Sandbag Suitcase Carry (switch hands as needed), wearing your ruck for the entire workout using your baseline weight. The Rucking and Additional Challenge requirement is, "Choose your weight, set your goal, and earn your Ruck Fit patch by completing 10 total rucks between January 1 – 31." I note that, at the Advanced level, a ruck should be 20-45 lbs. for 5-7 miles. The book of the month is Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. The retest F*CK is, "50 Ruck Squats for time, [h]ip crease should go below the kneecap (just past parallel) to count."

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: My next book in my martial arts library is Warriors of the Heart by Danaan Parry. I'm still slowly working my way through A New Mourning: Discovering the Gifts in Grief by Georgena Eggleston. I finished reading Securing Sexuality: Emerging Issues at the Intersection of Intimacy and Technology by Stefani Goerlich and J. Wolfgang Goerlich. Less brain fog means some reading! This book will be added to my professional reference library. I also attended a virtual kink class, BPD, PTSD & M/s with Joy Perez, hosted by the PLA: no new information, but excellent DBT-style handouts for power dynamics.

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: NO progress. I had hoped to get out to Base Station this weekend, but I'm in no shape to drive. No progress with The Whorse; she'll be ready for pickup whenever I can schedule her. I'll get her to Base Station and start her rehabilitation and restocking this winter.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I'm continuing Jim Cobb's Countdown to Preparedness book/assignments. Week 22 is firearms, and I still need to check, clean, and practice more with my existing gear. Week 22 is still on hold, but it's now more on my radar. I'm well-prepared for Week 44, Vehicle Emergency Kits.

Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress.

Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: The class I'll be teaching at the RCDM meeting, 'Medical situations for DM's' has been postponed until February. I'm also still spending time organizing and checking credentials for the Kinkfest Medical Team, now with 29 volunteers approved on the roster. I'll be DM'ing Deviance this week if I recover quickly, and I hope to have a fun and productive weekend. I've also signed up for PDX-Rated next month.
