Firefighter Intern: Day 18
Jun. 28th, 2018 07:24 amRomantic visions of courage and heroism are the stuff from which novels are constructed, but the reality of courage and heroism to a firefighter is hard, dirty work. (Dennis Smith, Report From Engine Co. 82)
Today was a day of usual but not very exciting firefighter tasks. Rig checks, washing Medic 483, and building and installing address signs and installing them at the appropriate addresses. They're green reflective signs with white reflective lettering, and the signs are for us to be able to find addresses in the dark, in a hurry. We carried our turnouts in Utility 482, just in case, but we went to bed without a single call. Of course, we were toned out on Rescue 481 at 2:30 am for a vehicle rollover in Deer City as Mutual Aid, but we were called off just before we got there.
