The Third May 2019 101/1001 Update
May. 30th, 2019 08:55 am“There is surely nothing other than the single purpose of the present moment. A man's whole life is a succession of moment after moment. There will be nothing else to do, and nothing else to pursue. Live being true to the single purpose of the moment.” ― Yamamoto Tsunetomo, Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai
Goals Completed: 31/108
Goals in Progress: 29
Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: No real progress, although I ran the Warrior Dash two weekends ago, and last week I engaged in a lot of physical activity at SOAK. My body is slimming down a little, and my body is hardening up.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I've finished Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind and Hagakure while I was at SOAK, and I'm starting two other books in my permanent library. I have been mostly managing to meditate daily this month. I am confirmed to take retreat the end of June in our local Zen Monastery.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I'm scheduled to take 3 CEUs next Friday. I hope to be able to renew my CPR/First Aid certification in a few weeks. Ol' Number 3 is scheduled for a tuneup in a few weeks.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: Stuart finally built the Base Station temporary meter base for electrical power last week, and we're waiting for the county to inspect the base before the PUD will do the final connection/power meter installation. Yesterday I took another Stop the Bleed class, a basic hands-on trauma class on tourniquets and wound packing. I'm currently at the Red Cross Disaster Academy taking various disaster preparation classes for the next four days, including Mass Care, Disaster Mental Health Sevices, and advanced Psychological First Aid - what I'd be most likely to be doing in an actual deployment.
Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: I went to SOAK, the regional Burning Man Festival in Oregon, and I worked as a Ranger and a Fire Safety Lead - I ran the more aggressive hose line for each of the two Burns, trained for a tree fire, helped with the on-site training of the fire crew, managed my crew and apparatus (Engine 1), and fought at the Black Rock City Gladiators as the Fire Safety representative. I made it to the semifinals by taking out the Rangers (lol!) quickly in the first round, and winning one of the longest grappling fights in the history of the Gladiators. I'm still a bit sore, but it was well worth it. *smile*
