Musashi's Book of Five Rings
Sep. 16th, 2005 02:38 pmThe nine basic attitudes from the first excerpt:
* Do not think dishonestly.
* The Way is in training.
* Become aquainted with every art.
* Know the Ways of all professions.
* Distinguish between gain and loss in worldly matters.
* Develop intuitive judgement and understanding for everything.
* Perceive those things which cannot be seen.
* Pay attention even to trifles.
* Do nothing which is of no use.
Now from Kaufman's interpretation:
1) Think honestly within yourself in your dealings with all men.
2) Constant training is the only Way to learn strategy.
3) Become familiar with every art you come across.
4) Understand the Way of other disciplines.
5) Know the difference between right and wrong in matters of men.
6) Strive for inner judgement and understanding of everything.
7) See that which cannot be seen.
8 Overlook nothing, regardless of its insignificance.
9) Do not waste time idling or thinking after you have set your goals.
