101/1001 Update
Sep. 9th, 2020 08:58 pm"A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it" - Proverbs 22:3
Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I'm continuing the Spartan bodyweight exercises to my pushup challenge. No changes.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm back to reading Shunryu Suzuki's Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind from my permanent library, and Being Wrong: Adventures in the Margin of Error by Kathryn Schulz. I'm still training mindfulness with my eating patterns.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I will be scheduling my yearly physical this week, with all of the subsequent lab work, including my yearly STI/STD screening.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: No progress on goals. Evacuation and backup options for the current wildland fire situation at the Staging Area are ready. 10-minute, 30-minute, and 2-hour warning plans are staged. I intend to evacuate if it's necessary with food, gear, and medical/cleaning supplies for both a pandemic and a wildland fire scenario, and for at least a week in case of loss of the Staging Area. Medically, I'm prepared for trauma, burns, and airway management. My preferred option is to go North to Base Station, where I have the most gear and also where the Old Man is staying, but there are options for both West and East if North is impassable. If I am receiving evacuees, I have space and food and medical supplies for four people and some pets at the Staging Area. Base Station could accommodate multiple people with pets and two RVs, and there's enough camping gear/space for those without vehicles if necessary.
I expect that I will soon be volunteering at the station to supplement some of our paid firefighters that have deployed down South, maybe this week.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: The subcontractors for Base Station will be working on the internet and phone line under the road tomorrow! After they're done, a regular technician should be out to finish all of the connections. Finally! We are still using all of the water from the cistern, about 200 gallons a day, to wet down all of the loose dirt in the drain field, the Pump House area, and the Old Man Trail construction zones to compact it - and also keep the area wet/damp for fire defense. The level 2 fire defensive spacing project and the Old Man Trail were completed just in time.
Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: I was consensually but reluctantly 'kidnapped' for a two-day hiking/camping trip in Rogue Valley, which was probably my only vacation this year. They were almost no people around, and we were masked and socially and spatially distant the few times we interacted with anybody. We did order food to go at a diner in Prospect, and that was some good chicken-fried steak breakfast! We went to get out of Portland, and to find some of the oldest geocaches still remaining in Oregon. We found five of the Oldest 50, bringing my total to 39/50 - this time, all of the caches we found were from 2001. *smile* We stayed in the Rogue River Valley, and saw a Natural Bridge volcanic formation, and hiked a couple of miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, and stopped at a Covered Bridge as well. I ended up bee-stung, mosquito-bitten, scratched up, and exhausted - we did it right. *smile* However, on the way home we were diverted twice by the wildland fires (once in Ashland, once in Medford) and almost again in Grants Pass - we saw flames on both sides of the highway and crews starting to respond, but we just drove through as they hadn't closed the freeway yet.
