101/1001 Update
Feb. 21st, 2021 05:06 pm“The central question of a warrior’s training is not how we avoid uncertainty and fear but how we relate to discomfort.” — Pema Chödrön
Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: Faye and I knocked out the Iwo Jima WOD for the February GoRuck requirements. This month's workout was shorter but brutal. It was two rounds, all wearing my 30-lb. ruck: 19 Sandbag Cleans with 50-lb. sandbag, then a 500m Ruck with 50-lb. sandbag (around the block), 45 Burpee Step-Ups, and then another 500m Ruck with the 50-lb. sandbag - and then repeat for the second round. The neighbors probably think we're crazy. It was raining on the last ruck around the block, and that actually felt good. All I have left at this point before I slap February's patch on my ruck is to read the book and write two letters. I'm keeping up with the pushups and the burpees, however - March's Goruck theme is Misery. *grin*
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm continuing training mindfulness with my eating patterns. I'm continuing to meditate daily this month. I finished The Last Barrier: A Journey into the World of Sufi Teachings, by Reshad Feild. This was a Free Library find, a battered first edition paperback with a repeated Chapter 6 - but a very good and very readable autobiographical exploration of Sufi philosophy and training, and the ways of the Dervishes. I will keep and reread this book.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: The daily driver is being made driveable, although she'll never be the same. Although the frame is straight, the body is twisted and bent past repair. She'll be a workhorse out at Base Station. I've got a case number, but the police will never do anything about follow-up or finding the person who hit-and-ran. I continue to move out of The Staging Area, and I was given a lot of tools and gear, including a carport, a 2-man crosscut saw, and a BBQ grill. Once I have my daily driver, I'll hook up the trailer and move it all to Base Station.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I'm still doing a weekly 3-hour comprehensive EMT refresher online. I'm low on my medical supplies and food, but I'm still doing OK.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: We took a recon trip to Base Station to get the mail (and my book) and check for damage. Base Station survived the storm well, with no damage to any of the structures or Ol' Number 3. However, there has been no progress with the Pump House by the contractors, and the placement of the building materials for the Pump House makes adding water to the RV very difficult. That's less critical, as The Old Man will be staying in Portland and recovering for a while. The old Man is healing nicely with the antibiotic and wound cleaning.
Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: No progress.
