There are risks and costs to action. But they are far less than the long-range risks of comfortable inaction. - John F. Kennedy

Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I've completed the GoRuck Honor Challenge additional tasking this last month, to "reach out to and connect with one person you admire greatly, and tell them why." I picked Vicki Minor, and well as Burk Minor and Mark vonTillow, the founder of the Wildland Firefighter Foundation and the Directors of Outreach, because they run the organization that provides immediate financial and crisis assistance to families of fallen and injured wildland firefighters, and because they've been on the fire line. I've slapped the patch on my ruck.

I'm continuing to work on pushups, more than 4 x 50-60 pushups, daily, and I'll be running the Rugged Maniac this week. In addition to the Foam Glow Race in October, I've also signed up for the Bubble Run Race on the same day. (Bubbles in the morning, Glow at night!)

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm more than halfway through Meditations 4, by Thanissaro Bhikkhu (Geoffery Degraff). I'm also still reading The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz, Creating True Peace: Ending Violence in Yourself, Your Family, Your Community, and the World by Thich Nhat Hanh, and Where Bigfoot Walks by Robert M. Pyle, reading at Base Station.

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I've taken the first of two online classes of Advanced Equity Skills for Clinicians (6 CEUs in 2 sessions), with the next class in two weeks. I have my dental appointment this week.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I have completed the EMT Refresher Course. There will be some more online courses offered in July that will be about more rural EMS topics, and I will likely attend some of them. I already have enough CEUs to recertify for my next EMT license renewal.

I had another regular day shift this month at the station this last week. Because of how I did and what I trained last week, my FF2 Wildland Firefighter certification was reinstated. My certification had lapsed, since I hadn't been at the station during the pandemic. We spent the morning doing house chores, and spent some of the afternoon practicing with fire shelters and working toward proficiency with the apparatus chainsaws. I learned about different safety precautions, different binds when cutting, as well as disassembling, cleaning, and repairing the saw. I still need some practice getting into the fire shelter faster, and practice starting and cutting with the chainsaw, but I picked up a few more sign-offs in my taskbook.

Base Station/Ol' Number 3: The pump has been installed in the Pump House, with a UV purification system also installed, and we're almost finished filling the 3000 gal tank. With the pump installed, that opened up a lot of storage space, and I was able to mostly clear the overstuffed walkway through Ol' Number 3 - so I can again have access to tools, supplies, and my bed. *smile* The RV trailer has also had most of the books organized and some extra food stored. I had managed to rescue some expired turnouts from the station, scored some free hard hats, and bought some respirators for everyone at Base Station in case of wildfire.

We also got very lucky and found a lift truck option to raise the HAM antenna. We will likely put it together next week, and raise the antenna the week after. The Old Man has the antenna beam and antenna array ordered, and I will get the antenna mast and 2-meter mast this week. Next week I also hope to dig out more of the RV Dump line and reduce more of the slash pile and clear more of the 'living room'/party/visitor/sitting space.

Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: For Memorial Day, we took a roadtrip to Eagle's Rest Trail to find one of the 50 oldest geocaches in Oregon, but we didn't find even the first stage. We did, however, get in a couple of miles of moderate trail hiking on a gorgeous day with some great views, and we did find the two oldest geocaches in Eugene, explore four covered bridges, and complete a bunch of fun challenge geocaches.
