101/1001 Update
Mar. 20th, 2022 09:41 pmAdversity, if a man is set down to it by degrees, is more supportable with equanimity by most people than any great prosperity arrived at in a single lifetime. — Samuel Butler
Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I'm back to 120 daily pushups, in three sets. I'm experimenting with push-up bars. I've attended five more Qigong/Tai Chi classes this week, staying masked. I finished the additional tasking for the March GoRuck 'Courage' Challenge, and we completed one of the Heavy Rucks (45 lbs. in my ruck). We still have two 3-mile Heavy Rucks and the bonus WOD left to do.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm finally done studying The Nine Situations of The Art of War by Sun Tzu from my permanent library. I've also finished Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century by Jessica Bruder, and started My Name Is Bill: Bill Wilson--His Life and the Creation of Alcoholics Anonymous by Susan Cheever, and The Book of Secrets: Unlocking the Hidden Dimensions of Your Life by Deepak Chopra. I also brought Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior by Chögyam Trungpa, The Chinese Martial Code: The Art of War of Sun Tzu, the Precepts of War by Sima Rangju, Wu Zi on the Art of War by A. L. Sadler, KODO, Ancient Ways: Lessons in the Spiritual Life of the Warrior/Martial Artist by Kensho Furuya, and KI in Daily Life by Koichi Tohei, from my permanent library on the bus. I'm continuing my daily meditation for the month of March, and I've 'sat' another virtual Zazen loving-kindness metta.
New words: Apricity, which means "the warmth of the sun in winter". Nascent means "coming or having recently come into existence." Repullulate, defined as “to bud or sprout again.”
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: No progress.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I worked another 4-hour shift at the station to finish up my annual training, including NFPA 1500 Advanced HAZWOPER Awareness (MOD #2), Fleet Program Emergency Vehicle Operations, and S-133 (Look Up, Look Down, Look Around), a 2-4 hours online class required for Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5) and Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1) for Wildland Fire Operations. Once the Training Officer reviews my stuff, I'll be allowed back on the rigs and to respond to emergencies.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: We've got a fourth radio set up at Base Station after The Old Man fixed the faulty connector. We've had some mail and packages stolen, so we're installing a secure mailbox and a secure package/deliveries box. The RV grey and black water tanks were dumped, an empty propane tank filled, more brush was cleared. Ol' Number 3's curtains, after more than 10 years, are torn, faded, and moldy - and we took some of them down to start replacing them. While I was away at the station, Faye cleared and created a space for the garbage cans to make it easier for The Old Man to get out the trash and recycling.
Adventure/Doing Stuff: I submitted a virtual geocache called 'Portland Weird: The Freakybuttrue Peculiarium' to be published - I was apparently one of only 4,000 cache owners who were given the opportunity to hide a Virtual Cache. We'll see if it gets published. *smile*
